Well, y'all know how much I love the whole Illustrated Faith concept, but I haven't gotten to do as much bible journaling as I have wanted to lately. However, I was recently determined to carve out about 30 minutes to read, soak in some truth and reflect! Even though, I'm not good at memorizing scripture or knowing their reference numbers, the words "hope" and "anchor for my soul" kept rolling around in my head, so I knew I had to investigate that and focus my journaling there.
I used my favorite bible app and looked up hope and anchor, and immediately found Hebrews 6:19 which quotes 'hope being an anchor to the soul', almost directly as it had been resonating in my head. That lead me to start thinking about how I would illustrate that on my bible page. I turned around at my craft table, opened up my VERVE stamps drawer, and blindly grabbed for a set. Y'all, it was THIS SET that I used on my book that my fingers went to without looking! I am not even kidding. I think God was REALLY trying to get this message to me! I still can't believe that happened!
So here's a little bit about what I did...I started by stamping the red rope circle from the STRONG ANCHOR set from Verve, and then stamped the scripture from that set right over that, just a little offset in black. I then started in stenciling the stars using a Heidi Swapp stencil and some aqua ink. See the washi tape? Yep, it's covering a mistake I made with the stencil, but I think it looks great!
I also pulled out the FAITH MEDLEY set and stamped the little "thanks" sentiment below the washi tape. I went back in and added the anchors, captain's wheels and some sticker words to fill in the blank areas. The actual verse is highlighted with a Prismacolor pencil.
To create a tab, I used another piece of washi tape on a paperclip and flag-ended it with scissors. That was a little plain, so I stamped the anchors again from the STRONG ANCHOR set and die cut them using the NAUTICAL DIE SET, punched holes in them and put them on clip. I really love how it turned out and that they can hang freely. I don't think I'll ever forget how this page came to be and I certainly can remember that verse now.
SUSIE Q-TIP: I had no idea what this page was going to look like when I started it. Bible journaling is just one of those things (to me) where you just have to jump right in and just start. There's no right or wrong (just products to be careful with using on the thin pages of a bible), and mistakes can be taken care of "creatively" like I did here.
