Viva La Verve--Be Yourself

Well, I have been wanting to get out some of my VERVE stuff and mess around with it for a little bit.  I've been SO inspired by Julee (Verve's amazing owner) and all her cards she makes using that darker kraft cardstock (I think it's actually some brown paper bags!).  Whatever it is, I'm officially in love with it and the look it gives!  So when I saw an 8.5x11 pack of some cardstock so similar to "paper bags" at Hobby Lobby, I knew it had my name all over it (plus, it was 50% off)!

Of course I started my card off with February's Wk. 3 Viva La Verve sketch and inspiration photo.  You can find all the details about that challenge HERE on the new Viva La Verve Sketch Blog

I recently discovered that my Verve collection lacked the LEAN ON ME stamp set (gasp!) and promptly ordered it.  How did I not have this one?  I stamped the sentiment from that set and punched it out in a circle.  The circle on the sketch is "losely" represented by the CLASSY LABEL DIE which was also stamped with the matching frame from the UNTO US set.  The sentiment is embellished with a stamped flower also from LEAN ON ME.  The leaves were made using the DREAMY LEAVES dies and then stamped with the TEXT OBJECTS set for a little dimension.  I needed a little more pink (because who doesn't, right?) over on the side, so I added the little heart border from the SCALLOPED TRIM TRIO.

By the way, I had a great response to my last post not only about my card (wink!), but also about the interest in seeing my home building process.  That makes me so happy!  I can't wait to share more!

SUSIE Q-TIP:  I love the look of monochromatic layers.  That's what I did here with my new love, the darker kraft.  However, I do think you have to give it a little definition when using that technique.  This time, I ran it through the honeycomb embossing folder, then took my white craft ink pad and just lightly rubbed it on the raised areas of the honeycombs.  You know that ink stays slightly wet for a while, so I decided to douse it with some clear embossing powder, not caring where it stuck on the paper.  Then I heat embossed that which gave me that shiny, speckled and full of texture look.  I think I want to do that again.  It was fun!
