Nautical Baby Theme

Well, it had been years since I had been to a baby shower (that happens when you get older), but a few weekends ago, I was honored to be invited to one for a family friend.  She really didn't want a baby shower, but it's her first baby and her sister INSISTED on throwing one.  To get around NOT having a baby shower, it was more of a "pre-birthday" party for baby Charlie, complete with BBQ pork, potato salad, margaritas, swimming for the kids, and a "football squares" gambling game where everyone made bets ($5/square) on what day he's going to arrive.  So cute.

I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to make something baby and fun using some old favorites from VERVE.  As I was pulling stamps together, I realized that the "sweet baby" sentiment from the TREASURED WORDS set fit perfectly inside the rope circle from the STRONG ANCHOR set.  I also wanted to add some stars to it, so I used the SUPER DAD set and used the star stamp.  It was the perfect size.  Eek!  So the nautical baby theme was born!

I started out wanting just a simple tag for the brown paper package of diapers and lullaby CD I had wrapped up.  However, in my world, everything runs on "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" mojo, so I had to also make a card to go with the gift.

I couldn't resist using the chalkboard technique (can ya'll tell I love this one?), for the main portions of these projects and enhanced them with cutouts from the PENNANT TRIM, JOTTED HEART and NAUTICAL DIES sets from VERVE

It was a fun "pre-birthday" party and was a refreshing alternative to the usual corny baby games.  Can't wait for Charlie to arrive.  I'm hoping to win that baby due date money pool, too!  There's almost $300 at stake!

SUSIE Q-TIP:  Once I got the card all laid out (use abstinence with your glue, until you're sure you want to marry your card pieces), it still needed a little "somthin' somthin'".  That's when I pulled out my trusty silver brads.  First came love, then came marriage, then came baby in the baby carriage.  (I just gave ya'll the birds and bees speech in crafty card-maker terms.  Your welcome.)
