Land of the Free
Well, I hope ya'll are enjoying the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Eric and I worked in the yard and basically gave it a mini makeover. It was getting gangly along with several trees that needed to be trimmed because they were rubbing against the house and roof. There used to be all shade in the front yard (it's not that big), but now with the trees trimmed, we actually have a bit of sunlight coming through! I only have one pot of flowers to plant and I'll be done. I'm not a gardener, so just trimming and mowing is a makeover to us! I think the girls would like to help me, so I'm waiting until they get back from their grandparents. Maybe I'll get a picture of the end result!
Anyway, I had some time to craft last night after we were done for the day and wanted to make a special Memorial Day themed card using some of my favorite VERVE stamps and some new gold Heidi Swapp Color Shine spray (as ya'll know, I'm obsessed with anything Heidi). I used the older American Hero stamp set (one of my all-time favorites from Verve) and combined it with the little frame from the On Occasion set and cut it out with the Occasion Frame Die. It was a PERFECT fit for the sentiment...made me just a wee bit HAPPY, and a perfect way to use the latest and greatest Viva La Verve Sketch!
I don't know if you can tell it too much from the pictures, but I stamped each star with the navy and red inks, then clear heat embossed over them. Then I sprayed the gold Color Shine on top and wiped it off the embossed stars for an emboss-resist technique that Heidi is making so popular. I LOVE IT! It's very gold-shimmery in real life. Since I was in a technique-y mood, I even colored some gorgeous cream colored Verve Seam Binding Ribbon with my Stormy Sky Distress Stain from Ranger, crumpled it up and let it dry before making my bow.
Ok, we are off to pick up the girls from their grandparents and my mom from my sister's house...back to the NOISY everyday life that I love. Thanks to all the men and women who serve and have served our country so that I could have this NOISY everyday life.
SUSIE Q-TIP: You can use almost any kind of dye, spray, ink refills, or mists to color white or cream seam binding ribbon to match your project. A heat tool makes drying time much faster as well.
(We are running a bit late to get out of town, so I'll be back a little later with my supply list...don't let me forget!)
