Verve Meets Chalkboard Technique
Well, slowly but surely we are getting our holiday groove on. I've started bringing in some of the decorations from the plethora of buckets out in the garage. Most of the Christmas lights are up on the house and we are almost done lining the yard with them (my favorite, but we have run out of stakes!). With the warmer weather we are having here in Texas, it's actually been enjoyable to be out there and not be freezing! Tomorrow night's project--the Christmas tree!
I have had this Christmas set from Verve for a little bit now, but with all my other Verve goodness, it simply had to wait its turn to play. I'm so glad I waited, though and here's why. I've mentioned it before that I'm a subscriber and big fan of Paper, Scissors and Superheroes, Betsy Veldman's blog. The other day, she posted THIS fabulous tutorial on how to use stamps to make it look like chalk on a chalkboard (hide your fingernails!). I personally hate the feel of chalk and to write with it on a chalkboard gives me the heeby-jeebies! So this is perfect!!
I knew as soon as I read Betsy's tutorial, I wanted to give it a big ol' try and I knew JUST the right stamp set to use for my first go at it--Verve's Peace on Earth. It's a trendy word art set that includes some sweet Christmas sayings, phrases and flourishes. I won't rehash how I did this technique--Betsy has all the easy to follow info HERE. Doesn't it look just like chalkboard? I LOVE IT!! I also took out my Snowflake Tidings dies from Verve and turned them into felt flowers and added some leaves stamped from the Dream Big set and cut with the Dreamy Leaves dies.
The sketch is actually this week's Viva La Verve sketch (November Week 4). I changed it up a bit and made my card square. When I started cutting all the pieces for it and layering them on my desk, it just wasn't working as a regular sized card! I think this is a favorite sketch and a new favorite card!
SUSIE Q-TIP: Layer different border dies or punches for extra texture and dimension. Also, try the chalkboard technique...it was super FUN!
