Verve--In Heidi Style

Well, it's no secret that I'm a big fan of Heidi Swapp.  She's my favorite due to her fun, quirky and modern take on papercrafting.  In fact, I'm kicking myself for not getting in on her latest online class with all the supplies included.  Looks super fun!  Maybe I'll catch the next one!  Merry Christmas to me, possibly?  So with her on my brain, I took the liberty to do up a Verve card in "Heidi" style!

I started by pulling out some older My Mind's Eye papers from last year (I have to hoard my ACTUAL Heidi paper, you know, but I don't have a bunch of HS supplies, sadly.) that had the "feel of Heidi" with the colors, and contemporary patterns.  Then came the stamps from Verve.  I used two fairly newer sets.  The sentiment comes from Learning to Sail, and see that fun little black chevron border (SO Heidi!)?  It's from the Borderline set that has so many fun elements that make adding little details like that so EASY!

Oh!  I almost forgot to say that I started with an older Sweet Sunday Sketch from Karen.  It was perfect for using the Pennant Trim die.  I realized a little earlier that I've used it on just about every one of my Verve cards I've made since I got it.  Do I love it?  Apparently.  I used a few other "A Cut Above" Dies from Verve also.  The sentiment is perfect stamped onto the Mini Classy Label.  Then I added the Flutterby Butterfly and of course a pink heart from the From the Heart Die set that I actually put an eyelet (who uses those anymore?) in and dangled it from the pennants with some Divine Twine.  I'm going to give this to a friend who loves Heidi even more than me if you can believe that!  (And Heidi, if you're reading this {which I'm sure she won't EVER}, leave me a comment and tell me what you think!  I hope you're not too mad that I want to be you when I grow up!)

SUSIE Q-TIP:  Even though I LOVE Heidi Swapp's fun style, I obviously can't just sit down and make something similar without getting a little inspired first.  What I did for this card, was flip through a Heidi Swapp book first, and really studied the "little things" that she uses to embellish her projects.  You could also go online to her website HERE.  Then I was able to to incorporate them into my card.  For example, the butterfly, music paper, pops of pink, hearts, bling, splash of black, washi tape, white paint along edges, and even the font of the sentiment lend to her style.  Have you done that lately?  Really study what makes you like a certain artist.  It'll bring out the best in you to 'make pretty stuff'!
