Verve and Caffeine
Well, the heat here in North Texas is already unbearable, and this week we are expecting a "heat wave". It would be the same week that the girls start their pre-season soccer practices. We have one or the other girl due to be at a practice every night this week anywhere from 6 to 8:30 pm! Yes, it will be a bit cooler, if you consider 100 degrees that much cooler than 109! We'll see how long that lasts! Either way, the daytime hours will be gladly spent indoors, and I have much to get done this week because Eric and I leave for vacation to South Carolina and Tennessee next Monday. YAY!! We are super excited, as this is the first time we have gone on vacation by ourselves in 13 years!
So with my HUGE list of things to get done sitting next to me (I have to get my mom all set up to stay here alone and the girls off to their other grandparents), I made this card using some of my favorite Verve stamps and dies. It signifies how much caffeine I'm going to need this week to keep me on track! Now ya'll KNOW I'm not a pastel-y person, but I just couldn't wait to use some of this new Sweetest Thing (Tangerine) paper from My Mind's Eye.
I started out with the latest Viva la Verve sketch (July Week 5) which happens to be a nice, clean and simple one, but I was in a "more is more" mood, so this is what I came up with! The coffee cups and FABULOUS sentiment are from the Better With You stamp set. The sentiment panel (cut from the Curvy Bookplate die) is stamped with my older (but very LOVED) set called Bountiful Backgrounds to make the polkadots. I also stamped it again on kraft and then stamped the cups over that in order to paper piece the main areas of two of the cups. The other one is just paper pieced with patterned paper. I added a couple of flowers randomly using the Loopy Blooms die and then finished the card off with a "Ribbon-Button-Loopy-Thingy Embellishment". I hadn't made one of those in a while, so it was time.
And now it's time for me to go get some more caffeine and tackle another item or two on my list. starting with getting out in this heat and picking up Lindsie from Show Choir Boot Camp! (which includes several more projects and blog posts this week, so stay tuned!)
SUSIE Q-TIP: When I first colored the peachy cups, they were a little bright (R00 and R02). To tone them down, I went over the whole thing with a warm grey (W1). I don't know if that's what "the pros" do, but I had already glued all my paper piecing down, heat embossed the sparkly hearts and cut them out. I was NOT going to do that again. It worked for me.
