Swappy Happy Birthday

Well, what is today, Wednesday? Not bad--only took a little 3-day mini break from the blog here! I'm trying to post much more thanI have been, not quite like old times (every day), but almost. I don't want ya'll to forget about me now!! Last night was my art group night where about 7 of us get together and make a project. This time, we decided to do a "shoebox" style card swap, where we bring "kits" of our card design and everyone makes one of each of the designs. This is the card I made using some of my favorite Verve products, including a little set I'd never even used before.

I love this week's Viva la Verve sketch (July Week 2) and thought it would be easy enough for everyone to do by just seeing my sample, even though it was 16 pieces (kitting it was not the funnest, especially when I accidently dumped ALL the pieces all over the floor)! I used the Small Celebrations set for the sentiment because I just lOvE those fonts together. Then for the "cluster" of embellished goodness, I stamped and cut out the Graph Paper Plain Jane and arranged the Ribbon Banner, Leafy Sprigs and Wavy Hearts die cuts as part of the main panel on my card. Then, I rolled some paper candles and used some Divine Twine for the wicks and added them with a little hot glue (a fun touch suggested by Jen!).

Anyway, I think everyone enjoyed making my card. I didn't hear too much grumbling I don't think! It was fun seeing everyone's different styles and trying something new for a change! I hope ya'll like it too, but no, I don't want to kit any more of these unless you buy me a Silhouette Cameo and I don't see that happening anytime soon!! LOL!

SUSIE Q-TIP: Use a skinny paintbrush, chopstick or bamboo skewer to start rolling the paper candles with. Otherwise, you will get a bunch of creases in the paper and it may even end up triangular shaped rather than cylindrical. Don't ask me how I know this. I don't want to talk about it.

Stamps: Small Celebrations, Graph Paper Plain Jane (Verve)
Paper: Kraft, Vintage Cream, Pure Poppy, Dark Chocolate, Simply Chartreuse, Miss Caroline (MME), This and That (Echo Park)
Ink: Brilliance Graphite Black (Tsukineko), Ruby Red (SU!)
Accessories: Ribbon Banner, Leafy Sprigs, Wavy Heart (a cut Above Dies by Verve), Circle and Scallop Circle Nestabilities, Cherry Divine Twine (TCP), Button, Plastic Baubles (Michael's), Hot Glue, Jody Boosters
Finished Size: A2

  1. Love this card, Susan! I will be attending my first Shoebox Swap a couple months from now and really looking forward to it. I only started making cards last November so it will be hard for me to come up with something this great for a kit, but I'm sure going to give it my best shot. Reading about your mishaps while making this card kit cracks me up because I do so many of the same things...drops, spills, smudges. Lately I can't seem to get the jewel pearls off the sticky mat and onto my card without having them flip off the tweezers into the land of the unknown aka my cream colored carpet! Anyway, love your blog and I love Verve stamps so I will be coming back to visit. :)

  2. Susan, this is fabulous! I love every little detail.
