A {Brand New Year} Sketch For You to Try

Well, Happy New Year! We had a great time across the street at our neighbor's house last night. However, I DID burn my tongue on the Black-eyed peas, so I hope that's not a sign of things to come for 2011! We NEED a good year in Lilesland (for a change)! Speaking of new, good and changes for the new year, I've got the best thing so far to start the year off in style. Jen's Sketch for You To Try is being overhauled for the BETTER to make it the BEST sketch challenge out there! You DEFINITELY WANT TO PLAY IN THIS ONE! Read on to see why...

I'll start with sharing my card. Each month, SFYTT will have a sponsor. This MONTH'S sketch (a little hint) is being sponsored by The Cat's Pajamas, who happens to have a new release coming up in a couple of weeks and I happen to have a Sneaky Peek going action going on right here. It's that cute big bear in a set called Bear Hugs and he's hoping 2011 is good to him as well in the love department. I'm still lovin' on that Icing CutUps die there going across the bottom in white. It will never break my heart.

And here's a close-up shot, kind of dark just to show ya'll how I fancied up his little heart. I paper pieced it in plain red cardstock and spread a thick layer of Ranger Glossy Accents over it. Then for the grass, I cut another Labels Nestabilities die in the green and used a large scallop scissor (remember those? You have to hold your mouth just right to get most of them to work.) to cut it off for the grass. You can't see it so good in the pictures, but I stamped the "handle with care" sentiment repeatedly on the grass for a nice detail. You *may* see me do a little more repeat stamping in the near future!

Ok, as promised here are the SWANKY details about playing along with the Sketch For You To Try starting this year:

1. The SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY will be posted on the first Saturday of each month on and will stay open to participants until the last day of the month, unless otherwise noted.
2. This is for fun! Interpret the sketch as you wish and embellish as desired. There are no vendor restrictions, but we would love to see you use the sponsor’s stamps!
3. Each month we will have a Designer of the Month that will be chosen from past month’s participants.
4. Come and play with us on each and every sketch! On Christmas Day 2011 a prize package worth over $200 will be given away to one very lucky and loyal SFYTT stamper that participates in EVERY sketch for the year.
5. To be eligible for the prize package, you must complete ALL of the sketches by each of the deadlines AND link your creation to the link system on that month’s sketch post (the first Saturday of the month). Everyone except for SFYTT Sisters are eligible for the prize package, including Designer of the Month and international players.
6. When posting your sketch creation on your blog, please post the sketch and link back to the sketch post on When posting to online galleries, please use the keyword “SFYTT.”

P.S…the link system over on Jen's blog for this month's sketch closes at midnight on January 31st.

SUSIE Q-TIP: Don't forget that you can paper piece with solid colors of cardstock as well as those cute patterns. In this case, I wanted the red heart to completely match my other reds in the card, so I used the solid cardstock for it as well. Oh and don't burn your tongue on the Black-eyed peas. It hurts.

  2. very cute susan!!! keep up the good ideas..

  3. What an adorable card! I like the idea of a prize package for loyal participants.

Am I understanding correctly that you can only win the prize sponsored by TCP if you use their stamps. I don't have any stamps from them and really don't have money to be buying more stamps right now. I will still try to participate to try for the loyalty prize at the end of the year, but wanted to confirm this.

  4. Completely adorable - I really like the pop of green against the reds and pinks. Thanks for the fun TCP sneak peek - that little guy is going on my wishlist for sure!

  5. This is just plain adorable! what a fab card!

  6. Just adorable! And I love the tip about holding my mouth just right to get those scissors to work. I knew there was a secret!
