Hi, It's Me (again)

Well, I'm getting to this blog post a little later than I had hoped. Things didn't quite go as planned this morning. Audrie got asked to go to a friend's house earlier than I expected, so I went ahead and took care of the errands that needed running this morning while she was gone, rather than this afternoon, so my blog post time got pushed back a tiny bit. I'm sure nothing like this has ever happened to ya'll! Same thing, a little different, right? As Audrie says, "I guess I'll just have to deal with it". Great 6 year old wisdom! Thanks for "dealing".

Anyway, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this card AND it's insides! It's another Pure Innocence girl from My Favorite Things that I had colored a LONG time ago while Eric was getting one of his chemo treatments. I was so tickled by the color combo! I can't believe it took me this long to use the image, though. I think I forgot I had it and then when I went to look at what I was going to make last night for today's post (long story--I thought I had another card, but realized that I can't show it to ya'll until next week! And since I promised a post today...I'm a girl of my word!), she leaped out of the stack and begged me to use her! She's called Heart Stripes and she's a particular favorite of mine as the "Hi, it's me" sentiment was my idea (sounds like the 'Windows 7 was my idea' commercials), really and truly!

Okay, so here I go again (the song, Promises, Promises from The Naked Eyes comes to mind here. Gotta love the 80's music!)--I'll have another MFT blog post for ya'll tomorrow as we've got something a little special going on! Then be prepared--I'll be posting Friday AND Saturday as well! I hope I've got something left to say, or ya'll are just going to have to deal with pictures only! I'm sure I'll come up with something. Any suggestions? What do ya'll want to know? Maybe I'll have a little Q & A post!? Throw me some questions, people! (Said in my best Ty Pennington voice--he's so cute!)

SUSIE Q-TIP: No one ever said every little part of an image has to be colored. Leave white spots where the "most lighted" area of your subject would be to make it even more highlighted. Artistically, it will make round or cylindrical things look even more rounded or cylindrical. Make sense?

Stamps: Heart Strings Pure Innocence (My Favorite Things)
Paper: Plum Pudding, Hawaiian Shores, Vintage Cream (PTI), Cream Perfect Panels (MFT), Thrift Shop (October Afternoon)
Ink: Brilliance Graphite Black (Tsukineko)
Accessories: Scallop Rectangle and Oval Nestabilities, Cuttlebug, Sewing Machine/Thread, Copic Markers, Plum Pudding Stitched Ribbon and Buttons (PTI), Twine (TCP), Jody Boosters
Finished Size: 5" Square

Have an Organic Birthday

Well, it's me again. Just couldn't keep from blogging again about some more MFT-aliciousness. (To tell ya'll the truth, I have a few things I needed to blog about before we ramp up to another OUTSTANDING release coming soon from My Favorite Things!) Yep, MFT Teasers are right around the corner! Ya'll are going to LOVE what's coming down the pike from My Favorite Things!

These two cards have not one thing in common (awkward!) other than they are both cute and contain images from one of the most FABULOUS stamp companies out there and use said fabulous company's new DIE-NAMICS dies! The first card uses an older set called Birthday Balloon Jolinne. I haven't gotten to play too much with this line (Jolinnes from MFT), but once I got her all colored, I couldn't wait to use her on a card! The second card I LOVE because it is so funny and totally reminds me of my friend, Melissa who is what I call very "granola" but in a good way! She is my Yoga teacher, a California girl, and has made me much more aware of what we eat, the weird things food has in it (like bugs), introduced me to Freecycle and has made me actually like SOME sushi! Thanks, girlie! Anyway, I immediately thought of her when I got this stamp set, Who's That Girl Goes Green. I'm like "totally" making another one of these babies just for her!

Ok, be prepared, I may have something else to share tomorrow--it's a big blogging week for me, I guess!

SUSIE Q-TIP: It's ok to cover a portion of your stamped image with a sentiment banner or panel. I give you permission. There's no rule against it. Ask Jody.

Happy Birthday Jolinne Card

Clearly Sentimental About My Favorite Things

Well, it's a rainy day here in North Texas, but I'm milking it for all it's worth. It's a great day for staying inside. Eric is at work (I KNOW!), the girls are playing dress-up or spies, or whatever it is--Audrie has on a trenchcoat and needs her cell phone (a real one that's broken) and Lindsie has on a Chinese silk dress with the high collar and red lipstick. I'm not asking, just letting them play, so I can get to playing too (with my stamps and new goodies!).

But first, I wanted to post about a little something I made with stamps from My Favorite Things for a couple of my friends and the girls' teachers. These were so EASY, that I made five of them for various people and occasions. I started by making the Mini Pizza Boxes. You can find Jen's tutorial for them HERE on SCS . I've made them several times now and are super quick to put together.

I kept them super simple and just decorated the top with some fabulous Cosmo Cricket paper that I sponged the edges with using some brown ink. Who knew?--black, white, cream, gray, and BROWN would work? I die-cut the butterflies and the little schoolhouse shapes and glammed them up with some felt that I also die-cut with my Cuttlebug and a little bling from Prima. Here comes the My Favorite Things part: I stamped the sentiments using the Thanks a Bunch and Clearly Sentimental About Birthdays sets.

For the Birthday one, I made a matching card. There's no stamping on the front, but the inside is finished off with another sentiment from the Clearly Sentimental About Birthdays set. I just love that whole line of sentiments from MFT! Inside each box was a little brown tissue paper and a flower pin that I made from fabric similar to the ones Jen made HERE. I love the black and white! (And cream and light yellow and gray and brown.)

SUSIE Q-TIP: When your kids are playing well together and you know they aren't getting in trouble, leave them alone. Eventually they will get hungry and ask for lunch. At some point you will have to get up and fix it for them. Drag this out as long as possible until they just whine too much. That way, they will be happy with whatever you come up with to eat, even if it's just a tuna sandwich.

Stamps: Clearly Sentimental About Birthdays, Thanks A Bunch (MFT)
Paper: Black, White (PTI), Cosmo Cricket
Ink: Brilliance Graphite Black (Tsukieneko), Chestnut Roan (Colorbox)
Accessories: Butterfly Die (SU!), Schoolhouse and Flower Dies (Provo), Cuttlebug, Scor-Pal, Flower Centers (Prima), Hot Glue, Jody Boosters

Card Inside:
Accessories: Large Scallop Die-Namics, Butterfly Punch (MS), Nestabilities, Cuttlebug, Swarovski Crystals (MFT)

A {Extra Love} Sketch For You To Try / Verve New Release Blog Hop

Well, Eric doesn't like to be the center of attention (unlike me), but when you get out of the hospital after 10 days, walk into a Taco Bell wearing your Lance Armstrong "Fight On" t-shirt, your Livestrong bracelet, no hair, pale, and a Superman cap on, you kind of tend to draw people's attention. So from across the dining area came a "How are you feeling?" from a stranger. In his best Batman voice (one of his vocal cords has been officially termed as "paralyzed"), Eric responded that he was doing ok and told me that he's finally been nailed as a Cancer Patient and that he didn't really like getting "that kind" of special attention. I told him it wasn't any special attention, it was just "Extra Love". Smiling at me, he agreed that was a better way to look at it--gave me warm fuzzies and made that quesadilla taste that much better. PSA: Please don't stare at the cancer patients, they are just waiting for "Things to get Better"!

So today's card serves 2 purposes--The New Verve Release Blog Hop--3 new sets! and Jen's Sketch For You To Try!

For the Verve hop, if you came from Teresa's blog, you're right on track. If not, head over to Julee's blog--that's where all the fun starts. She also has the full link list charted out over on the Verve Blog if you'd rather do it that way. Oh, and we’ve hidden a little prize for one lucky commenter along the hop, so be sure to spread a little comment love around as you hop! Okay, well, maybe it’s not so little. {grin} You could win the entire release, so let’s get hoppin’!

I love this sketch from Jen and combined with Verve stamps--greatness! I used the new "Blue Skies" set. The minute I saw it, I thought of Eric with all its uplifting sentiments that are full of hope and smiles--more warm fuzzies. I think it may turn out to be one of my all-time favorites from Verve.

So if you're ready to hop along, the next stop is Amy's blog where I'm absolutely positively sure you'll find something wonderful!

However, don't forget to play in the Sketch For You To Try as well, because we've teamed it up with Julee and Verve and she's giving away a Verve prize to a lucky SFYTT participant. Here's more inspiration for that from our SFYTT sisters:

Kelly
Leigh O'Brien
Amber Hight
Jenn Diercks

SUSIE Q-TIP: Mix and match different ribbon choices on your project just like you can with paper. Makes it more fun.

Stamps: Blue Skies (Verve)
Paper: Black, Pure Poppy, Cream (PTI), Barely Banana (SU!), Pink Paislee, October Afternoon
Ink: Brilliance Graphite Black (Tsukineko)
Accessories: Spiral Border Punch (SU!), Black Brads, Black Stitched Ribbon, B/W Polkadot Ribbon, Button, Twine (TCP), Silver Adhesive Pearls, Jody Boosters

SFYTT--I'm Lame {Again}

Well, here I am, pulling the lame-o card on ya'll again. I'm sorry but I won't have an SFYTT card for ya'll today for Jen's Sketch For You To Try. Eric has been in the hospital since Tuesday (they just figured out he has a lung infection), I've had a migraine for the last couple of days (it's now gone, finally) and I just couldn't muster the energy to get any stamping done last night after spending the day with him in Dallas and having our younger girls with us in the hospital room. It was a chore! They both almost ripped his IV from his port by nearly tripping over the tubing from his pump. Can you say OUCHieWAwa?? Then Audrie had the hiccups 4 seperate times while we were in the confines of his hospital room! It was getting more annoying than funny after the third go-round. Then she contracted them 2 more times last night. How does that happen? I tickled her a bunch and told her she must have forgotten how to breathe and of course that got her to laughing and another episode ensued, but that only accounts for one hiccup spell! Teehee.

Anyway, I can't post anything here without mentioning how amazed, astonished, overwhelmed, grateful, taken aback and completely humbled by the outpouring of love ya'll have shown since Sara and my friend Sheila hi-jacked my blog. (I'll be dealing with them later.) That in turn, has led to Verve, MFT and TCP having a big sale for Eric and our family (and SCS donating banner ad space to get the word out) this weekend. It's so overwhelming that I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around all of it. There really are no words, just tears of joy. Kelly Lunceford made a card that she showed on her blog a few days ago with a great sentiment that she printed off the computer and it represents my thoughts EXACTLY:

"I would thank you from the bottom of my heart, but for you, my heart has no bottom."

I love all of you and what this stamping community stands for--family.

Now quit your gushing and go check out what my other SFYTT sisters have come up with for this week's Sketch For You To Try! Then be sure and upload them to Jen's blog HERE for your chance to be chosen for next month's guest designer spot!

SUSIE Q-TIP: We had Chic-Fil-A for lunch yesterday. They have one in the hospital restaurant. I've learned a couple of lessons while at Chic-Fil-A over the years. It is a fact that the waffle fries there take LOTS more ketchup than normal. A mommy friend of mine showed me how to open 2-3 ketchup packets at one time. Who'da thunk? Try it. Ok now Jen taught me this one and I can't stop doing this--Pour out your waffle fries and sprinkle salt and pepper on them. THEN drizzle honey all over (you can open 2-3 of these at once also). It's YUMMY! Try it. Pay no attention to the odd stares and looks you get from other people. They do not know the power of waffle fries done up this way. That's ok--more honey for you!

Support the Liles Family and Get Goodies!

Sara here, hi-jacking Susan's blog again!

I am just up in complete disbelief over this effort to raise money for Eric and his fight against cancer. Three GREAT companies that Susan works for have banned together to have a 10% off sale that will last Friday all the way through Sunday!! You can take advantage of great prices on the products you already love at My Favorite Things, The Cat's Pajamas and Verve all while helping Susan and her family. Now how awesome is that!?

Thanks to EVERYONE for all your support!  I can't even tell you how deeply it has effected our entire family.

A Message from Sheila and Sara

Hi Everyone!

Sara (Susan’s sister) & I have hi-jacked her blog. (SHHHHHH . . . don’t tell!) Susan’s awesome hubby Eric has been battling a very aggressive form of cancer for the past few months. She’s mentioned it a few times here but in her typical “Everything’s-OK” Susan-Style, she has made it kind of sound like “no big deal”. The reality is, it IS a big deal and they could really use some help. The medical bills are starting to pile up and Eric is out of sick time at work.

If you are interested and able, donations can be made to them via PayPal using her e-mail address – susanliles@sbcglobal.net. Sara has also placed a donate button on the side of the blog. See, it's over there--->

If you would prefer to donate anonymously or have any questions, you may contact me at sheila@remember4faith.com. I know they would appreciate your prayers and encouragement as well!

Thanks to everyone for all the support you have provided this far!!! Eric has loved receiving all of you encouraging letters and thoughts!!

A {Donuts=Happy} Sketch For You To Try

Well, I don(ut) know about ya'll, but I love donuts (and unfortunately it shows). Plain glazed are my very favorite. Zapped in the microwave for about 12 seconds to make them nice and warm and gooey-sweet is the best! So when I heard from Jen that this week's Sketch For You To Try was being sponsored by Skipping Stones Designs (a sweet stamp company), I knew I HAD to have this donut set called Birthday Donuts. I love this sentiment I used on my card today! It's so funny to me--I love that about Skipping Stones--the stamps reflect my sense of humor! I guess most people have their "favorite" donut store to go to and so do we. I love the little "GOT DONUT" (with no question mark) shop around the corner. The lady in there is so nice and always gives us extras (like I need them), so I'm sure I'll be making her a donut card too, thanking her for my donut larvae induced figure.

So guess what? Because the nice folks at Skipping Stones Designs are so sugary-sweet (hi Heather!), Jen gets to give some of their fun stamps away! There are 2 unreleased SSD sets being given away. Here's a super sneak peek at one of the cute sets!

One PARTICIPANT (meaning, you'll need to make a card using this week's Sketch For You To Try--any stamps are ok) will win both sets and must enter by linking their creation to the Inlinks section on Jen's SFYTT post by noon on Friday, June 18th. The winner will be announced on next Saturday's post over on Jen's blog.

Be sure to skip on over to see what my other SFYTT (your favorite keyword when uploading to online galleries) sisters have come up with! I wonder if they like donuts as much as I do? After you check out all the inspiration, feel free to pick me up a dozen glazed donuts and swing on by my house and we will have a sugar-fest! Ever make a card (or two) while riding on a sugar high? I wouldn't know how that feels. No, not me. Never. Teehee.

SUSIE Q-TIP: When stamping an image that you know you want to use Crystal Effects or Ranger Glossy Accents on (or heck, anything that needs drying time) and you are really tired and need to get to bed early after making your card and blogging it late at night, be sure to make that step number one. Otherwise, you will be up for a prolonged period of time unecessarily. However, during that time you will remember that you need to do some laundry in order to have something to wear the next day. Don't ask me how I know this. I don't want to talk about it. I think I may need some donuts this morning.

Stamps: Birthday Donuts (Skipping Stones Designs)
Paper: Orange Zest, Aqua Mist, White (PTI), Misc. DP
Ink: Walnut Stain (Ranger), Pumpkin Pie (SU!)
Accessories: Scalloped Rectangle Nestabilities, Swiss Dots Embossing Folder, Cuttlebug, Buttons and Ribbon (PTI), Glossy Accents (Ranger), Copic Markers, Glue Dots, Jody Boosters

MFT's Greatest Hits--Flopsey's Brewin' the Java

Well, it's Greatest Hits time from My Favorite Things. Yes, every month, a few of us on the design team pull out some of our "oldies" stamps and play with them for a change. It's really fun to pair up some old images with new "stuff" like ribbons, paper and buttons! This month's theme is to use our FLOPSEYS! I immediately grabbed for one of my favorites (I wonder why?), I Need Coffee Flopsey. I love this color combo and thought it would be a fun one for this card, especially with the two patterned papers I decided to use--so different, but I think they work! I also used some of my new crocheted ribbon from the Bakery Blend Collection. I think that may have been the first time I used it. What was I thinking to wait this long? Ugh.

There are a lot more Flopseys to see! So for your viewing pleasure, Kim has listed all the DT's links that have some Flopsey to share today over on HER BLOG. We hope you get to play with us. We'd love to see your Flopseys too! What? No Flopseys in your stash? Well have we got a deal for you! Kim is offering a discount on all the Flopseys for a limited time by using a code--FLOPSEY--at checkout. This FLOPSEY code is good for $3.00 off any Flopsey set! This code will only be valid Thursday June 10 and Friday June 11th, so hop on it fastly!

Eric Update: Last Friday, Eric and I were in Dallas all day getting his labwork, seeing the doctor and then his all-day chemo treatment, a more than generous dose of R-CHOP. So far he has handled it well, much better than his last round, and just feeling a little bit queasy. Over the course of his treatment, he has lost close to 45 pounds and that is not the greatest thing ever according to Dr. Maisel. So he's on a "whatever he wants to eat/can keep down" diet as he is looking a bit gaunt and just plain unhealthy. Hopefully he and his bloodwork will not look so malnourished next week! We saw the doctor again yesterday for another spinal tap (intrathecal chemo) and we got the news that last Friday's treatment was not the last one like we had hoped. After thinking about his case more, thinking back to about how we were going to aggressively treat it to begin with (but that didn't work out with that ugly Methotrexate ordeal), and how we had to back off a little and just go back to the R-CHOP regimen, Dr. Maisel decided Eric needs more chemo to make up the difference in order to still be aggressive and continue treating for a cure. Well, we are all for the word, "CURE"! The alternative is radiation therapy, but the long-term side effects are terrible, especially in the neck area where he'd have to have it. So we agreed to more chemo and his next round will be the Friday before the July 4th weekend. He's neutropenic right now and anemic which means his red and white blood cell counts are really low. We are going back on Tuesday for another blood test. If it's any lower, he will get another blood transfusion on that same day which will be done in the hospital and will take about 6 hours. He's a little down as he thought his chemo days were over and he was just starting to feel halfway human again! So he needs a little cheering up! However to be honest, I am glad he is getting a little more just to be on the safe side (not getting enough for his aggressive type of lymphoma after we had to back off a little bit was one of my worries!). Anyway, sorry it took me so long to update, there just wasn't much to tell other than losing weight, losing lunch and losing sleep (oh and losing more hair)! Thanks for the continued well wishes and happy thoughts!

SUSIE Q-TIP: The local scrapbook store I work at on Saturdays, Scrapper's Boutique just started selling Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels (they also carry My Favorite Things stamps, just fyi.). I sprayed my entire card with the one called "Marshmallow" to make it super shimmery without adding any color. I love it. Try it.

Stamps: I Need Coffee Flopsey (My Favorite Things)
Paper: Black, Old Olive (SU!), Aqua Core'dinations, MFT Cream Perfect Panels, Daisy Bucket DP, Ducks in a Row (October Afternoon)
Ink: Brilliance Graphite Black (Tsukineko)
Accessories: Large Scallop Die-namics, Scallop Square Nestabilities, Cuttlebug, Sewing Machine/Thread, Copic Markers, Marshmallow Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels), Crochet Ribbon and Button (MFT), Twine, Dotted Black Ribbon, Jody Boosters

TCPTUES113--Alphalicious Summer Schedule

Well, here we are, Tuesday already. How's your summer going? It's TCP Tuesday time from The Cat's Pajamas and I'm your Hostess with the Mostess today. It's my job to issue the stamp challenge this week. Along with the end of school comes the time we as moms have to figure out things to do for and with our kids to keep them from getting too bored (even though we are going to hear about it anyway I'm sure--"Mommy, I'm bored" is what us moms like to call "white noise" and we can tune that sentence out like there's no tomorrow or jump on it like a flea on a dog and find them a chore or two to do pdq).

So when I was thinking about what stamps to choose for us to be using this week for the stamp challenge, I was in the middle of coming up with a calendar of sorts and looking up things to do this summer on the internet, to follow along with our "Summer Schedule". (See my SUSIE Q-TIP below--you don't want to miss it! It's a classic.) That's when I decided to combine my task with something fun to create and hang on the fridge and use for our summer calendar and came up with the challenge being to use your ALPHABET STAMPS from The Cat's Pajamas (obviously because I needed to for my calendar pages). You don't have to make calendar pages, it can be a card or whatever you want.

My calendar pages were totally inspired by Leigh and this calendar HERE and HERE she made a while back. I got my calendar template from My Favorite Things and you can find that HERE or HERE if you want to make something similar to my project. I just printed them on some Georgia Pacific cardstock (it's not that thick) and then cut them down a little bit to fit onto a sheet of 8.5 x 11 that I actually cut a bit off the long edge too, making it really 8.25 x 11. It just looked better to me. I used all three alphabet sets from TCP--Nightie, Babydoll and Coolvetica along with 3 other sets for decoration--Fun in the Sun, A Beary Good Year and Joyride all colored with my Copics. I kept my design really simplistic as I know these are going to get handled a lot and why re-invent the wheel?

Ok, so read on to find out how you can participate and what's in it for you regarding TCP Tuesday--trust me, you want to. Then check out what we call our "Summer Schedule". I know a lot of ya'll have adopted this routine from a few years back as well, but I thought I'd share it again for ya'll newbies to my blog.

Play along with us and add your own design to your Splitcoast Gallery using keywords TCPTUES113 or to your blog and then use the Inlink button at the bottom of the TCP Tuesday post on Alma's blog. You could be eligible to be the next Swanky Stamper of the Month and win 25 smackeroos, that's $25 in Cat's Cash. Here are the simple deets for the challenge:

1. Each a week one of The Cat Pack will host a challenge.
2. The challenges will vary {stamp, technique, color, theme, sketch, etc.}
3. You will have until the end of the month to complete the challenge.
4. Post your design using the Inlink Button at the bottom of Alma's TCPTUES post. Your design must be linked and visible to this blog post to be considered.
5. TCP stamps are not required, but of course, highly encouraged. {Unless it's for the stamp challenge}
6. There will be one winner each month. They will be deemed that month’s Swankiest Stamper and get $25 in Cat’s Cash {money to spend on the TCP site!}.
7. Only designs posted to this blog post will be considered for the Swanky Stamper.
8. The newly crowned Swanky Stamper will be announced on the First of the Month and have his/her winning entry posted on The Cat’s Pajamas website where he/she will reign for the entire month.

SUSIE Q-TIP: I'm going to do a re-run and re-post what the girls and I refer to as our "Summer Schedule". We've done this for 2 or 3 years now (notice I mention I have a 4 year old below? She's 6 now, but would still partake in swimming in the bathtub with her bathing suit on if I let her, which I totally will. Why not?). Even before school let out, the girls were already asking me if we could follow this schedule. They LOVE it! I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

MONDAY MOVIE DAY--Pretty self-explanatory. Set child/children in front of TV and turn DVD player on. Continuous play buttons are extra handy. No really, after a busy weekend, they need down time. A couple of movies in a row won't hurt, or take them to a movie (Mondays are .50 cent days at a local theatre here), learn about a movie, make a movie.
TUESDAY TOY DAY--Don't you just love all the toys they have, but never play with (and then they complain they don't have anything TO play with?)? This is the day to say, play with the TOYS! Even outside toys are renewed when summer hits! Break out the rollerblades and bikes. Make a toy, have a puppet show, buy the toy you've promised them as a reward, build something.
WEDNESDAY WATER DAY--This one is fun. Take child/children outside and spray with water. They love it in the eyes. Get creative with this one. The obvious ones are play in a play pool, sprinkler or bathtub (seriously, my 4 year old loves to swim with her swimsuit on in the tub!). We don't have a pool, so if you don't either, take them to a waterpark or sneak over to your neighbor's pool while they are gone, making sure they don't use the dye that turns color if a potty accident occurs. This is also a good time to do science experiments that involve water or anything liquid. Read about the ocean and/or ocean animals. Potty train.
THURSDAY THOUGHTFUL DAY--You may have to force this one. The intent is to teach your kids to think of others, but the thoughtfulness concept is still an embryo until the age of 21, so keep that in mind. Today, make something for someone else, write a thank-you note, make a card for someone (who'da thunk and here's your chance to stamp), clean up something you didn't do. Make/send some flowers to a neighbor. Anything charitable or helpful toward others. The good thing about Thursday Thoughtful Day is that you get to play that card when they don't share and then they don't get the reward toy the next week on Tuesday Toy Day, totally forcing them to play with what they already have. If you're low on dough, have your radar ON for this.
FRIDAY FRIEND DAY--Farm your kids off for the day to a friend's house. If you're extra lucky, said friend will have them stay the night. Ok, if that's not possible, make Fridays a day where they get to have a friend over, or go do something with a friend. Scheduled "co-op" times between moms to take each other's kids, even for a couple of hours is greatness and majorly helpful for your sanity (remember this on Thursdays). Do I have any takers?

Seriously, this is a FUN weekly thing to follow and kids enjoy the structure of having something to look forward to. It's not imperitave that you stick to it and the activities don't even have to last all day. However, I think in the long run, you will have more time to get some stuff you want to get done if you just set that aside for a bit and share some time with them first. Only after that can you then also pull the "Now it's time for Mommy to play" card. I actually made a few of these days so that I'd have "built-in" stamping time. (But chores and laundry also have to get done--maybe I'm the one in need of a schedule!) I'd love to hear any suggestions of ideas for any of these daily things to do. If I get a lot of ideas, I will compile them here in a later post. Thanks for reading!!

A {Busy Baby Butterfly} Sketch For You To Try

Well, it's been a busy and momentous week around here. One third grade awards ceremony and two graduations--one kindergarten and one high school, the last day of school for everyone, an MFT Release, a TCP Tuesday Challenge (that I still need to post here), a Verve project and what is hoping to be Eric's last chemo session all day yesterday. Today looks to be full as well, with me working/playing at Scrapper's Boutique all day and then Jen and I possibly going to IKEA tonight. To be honest, I'm looking forward to relaxing a little next week even though the girls will be home for the summer. We have some really neat stuff planned, including a few home decor projects that I'm sure I'll be sharing here.

But for now, since it's Saturday and I managed to squeeze putting this card together in my jam-packed day yesterday (before settling in with Eric and a milkshake to watch The Hangover), I guess I'll share my Sketch For You To Try card. I really like this sketch Jen gave us and I'm for sure giving this one another shot. There's lots of possibilities! I had the fabric ruffle leftover on my desk from another project I did earlier this week for teacher gifts (oh gosh, I need to blog those too!).

Since I was in a bit of a hurry for our "post-chemo" date night, I decided not to think too hard with this one and go for using just a sentiment from My Favorite Things for the main image. I am loving MFT's "Clearly Sentimental" line and this one is from the set, Clearly Sentimental About Babies. This quote is one of my favorites--it's so true! I'm borrowing the coolest butterfly die ever from my friend Stephanie and she is getting "antsy" to see something from me with one of these butterflies on it, so for a little girlie baby card, I think it works! (Hi Stephanie!)

Anyway, I'm tired and need sleep, so--the end.

My SFYTT sisters have lots more to show you with Jen's sketch. Check them out right here before you play along, linking your creation over at Jen's blog for your chance at becoming next month's SFYTT Guest Designer. Look who got the nod this month--Andrea Ewen--she's awesome!

SUSIE Q-TIP: When using a butterfly die or shape and you need something to embellish it with, like a button, thread twine that's been doubled through the button and tie it in a knot on the back. Cut one set of "tails" off, but leave the other, making antennae for your butterfly.

Verve Project Parade--Audrie is Awesome!

Well, I hope ya'll have been noticing the Verve Project Parade going on over at the Verve Blog. If you missed it, you get to view it in its entirity starting with Jen's project on Day One because I'm here to be the caboose of this May Project Parade Party Train! Oh man, it's been a great fifteen day/fifteen projects ride! All the wonderful projects have been absolutely stunning and I'm always amazed at how all the Divas come up with so many creative ideas. Great job, girls!

Here's my post about what I did for the Parade (by the way, Audrie is Awesome!):

Even though summer has not officially started yet, it certainly feels like it here in Texas! This weekend we are already looking at highs to be around 102-105 degrees! Along with the end of May/beginning of June comes high school and kindergarten graduations, of which my family has one of each! (Crazy, I know!) So I had already made the high schooler a little gifty with some money in it, but I needed to come up with something fun to give to my kindergarten graduate, Audrie.

I thought it would be fun to make a "crayon box" of sorts but for sidewalk chalk (hopefully it will cool down a little so it will be fun to use outside). I designed this box similar to a 2-4-6-8 box, but with a few modifications to fit 8 pieces of Crayola brand chalk that I picked up at the grocery store and wrapped with some 2" strips of paper (I hate the feel of chalk! It totally oogs me out!). The box measures 3 5/8" by 4 1/2" by 2" and the handle is 1 1/2" wide.

Audrie's nickname is "Audrie Awesome", so I knew I had to use the sentiment stamps from Verve's Happy Days set to help congratulate her in her kindergarten accomplishment and again tell her how awesome she is. She really is (but then again, I'm biased.)!!

I stamped the big Hibiscus flower from the Plain Jane Collection and punched it out and then matted it on another circle and scallop circle to serve as the fastener to keep the box closed. I used temporary adhesive for this, but I would suggest using Velcro if you want to be able to carry it by the handle with something a bit heavy inside. I just didn't want to look for where the Velcro was in my bucket o' embellishments--I've been too busy with all this graduation stuff and took a shortcut this time!

I hope you've loved every minute of this Project Parade as much as I have! As with every Project Parade, we've got prizes! You still have until Monday to get your Summer Sizzle on and create a HOT project. Here's some more details on how this all works:

MFT Teaser--Release Day!

Well, I've been whining and complaining. Now that I work on Saturdays at our sweet little local scrapbook store, Scrapper's Boutique, I decided it was high time for me to get back into scrapbooking so that I could be "hands-on" and knowledgable about the products and how to use them. I see some great sample pages that different designers bring in and I just whine, whine, whine that I don't know how to do it like they do. I was "brought up" the "Creative Memories way" (if you know what I mean, but nothing against it either) in scrapbooking and have over 14 completed albums using only their stuff to prove it. I've just never gotten so creative and used "other stuff" (formerly known as contraband) to make scrapbook pages before, much less do any stamping on them!

So when I was coming up with what to make for today's Teaser for My Favorite Things, I decided to go all out and do a scrapbook page! It's a full 12 x 12 page and I used the new Clearly Sentimental About Vacations along with the older Bling 'Bet Alphabet set (which is perfect, I must say for scrapbooking!). At first I had a fun idea for a card, incorporating the "road trip" letters and the quote on it, but then chose to switch it up a bit and try a layout! Just like a card, I started with a sketch I found in one of my Creating Keepsakes magazines (that I subscribed to recently to study and learn how to scrapbook the "other" way!). Then I remembered this photo I had taken of the girls in the car on the way to Disneyworld last Christmas and printed it real quick and went to town (cutting my background circle by tracing it with a plate--I guess I need some more tools). Anyway, I did it! I scrapbooked a page and I LOVE IT! I'll try to add more pictures a little later.

ALERT!!! Surely ya'll all know by now that My Favorite Things now carries their own line of exclusive steel dies called Die-Namics. WELL, did you know that you can create a full 12 inch border with certain ones specifically for borders and edges? Simply cut one die edge from a 12 inch strip of paper (or however long you want it). Then take it out of your die cutting machine and line the die back up with the paper to continue the cut and run it through again. No more piecing the short borders together! By the way, Die-Namics will cut through a number of different mediums (like buttah) and I bet this technique will work for most of them! Try it!

Be sure and check out Kim's blog HERE to see what the other Design Team members are up to today with more teasers!

SUSIE Q-TIP: The letters for my "road trip" title are heat embossed with black embossing powder. Don't overheat your EP or it will just kind of absorb and become one with the paper. Just as it starts to "turn" is when you need to back off with the heat. Then, even though you really want to, try not to touch it too much, as the gloss will tarnish.

Stamps: Clearly Sentimental About Vacations, Bling 'Bet (My Favorite Things)
Paper: Black (PTI), Kraft Tiny Dots, Giggle Kids Flower Grid (MM), Take a Friend With You (Imaginsce), Red Bo Bunny Dots
Ink: Brilliance Graphite Black (Tsukineko), Embossing Ink Dauber (Stampendous)
