A Winner and Other News

Well, I got carried away yesterday with soccer, errands and enjoying the fall temperatures outside with our neighbors last night and totally forgot about picking a winner for the Pizzazz Aplenty prize! I've got a couple of other things to share also, so I thought I'd just take care of all of it today at one time. Let's get the yuck out of the way first and I promise it will get better as we go along...

I debated on how much to "share" here, but after thinking about it and how much I shared with Eric's stuff, I thought I'd go ahead and be just as transparent in hopes that it may help someone get through a similar situation, as I had heard from so many of you that my positive outlook was refreshing in something so hard to go through. So hopefully ya'll can see a little sunshine in this too. Brace, brace, brace...for TMI...I have a bit of endometriosis in my cesarean scar (very rare) and it has now spread to other places and is getting more and more painful. So tomorrow I'm having a hysterectomy. It's going to be laproscopic and my doctor will be using the DaVinci robot for the procedure. I told him he better brush up on his video game playing skills the night before, so his hand/eye coordination will be spot on. I'll be staying at Baylor Grapevine hospital overnight and coming home on Wednesday. I've been told I'll be up and moving around by Thursday, but friends of mine have shared that it won't be that easy. So I really don't know what to expect. Has anyone had this before? I'll keep ya'll posted!

Meanwhile, back at the farm, Verve is releasing a few stamp sets this Friday! Sneak peeks start Wednesday so be sure and check the Verve blog starting that day through Friday for a list of Divas who are playing along each day. There's a ton of release week challenges ya'll can read up on HERE on the Verve blog. I'm going to be auto-posting Thursday and Friday for these fabulous stamps. Just know that I'm writing up the posts today, so don't think I don't love ya'll anymore if they are short and to the point!

Now, are ya'll wondering why that cute little doggie is posted up there at the top and this cute little doggie is posted down here? Well, the dog up there is Hopper, our Rat Terrier that we had for 13 years until almost 2 weeks ago. It was the worst week ever. Eric was out of town and I found our poor dog had passed away in his sleep that Tuesday night after the girls went to bed. He was not sick or anything. We think he just died of old age. My neighbors and I buried him in the back yard around midnight that night (I didn't know what else to do) and I had the dreaded responsibility of telling the girls the next morning before school what had happened. It was terribly sad for all of us and I couldn't blog about it until just now. We'll miss you AND all your craziness, Hopper!

I had always said that if anything ever happened to Hopper, we would not be getting another dog. Ever. Well, that didn't last very long. I'm the one who absolutely could not stand not having a dog. We are now the proud owners of this little rescue dog! She's a 2-3 year old Puggle (Pug/Beagle) and her name is Sage. We have all fallen head over heels in love with her and we are pretty sure she loves us back. She is well-behaved and already housebroken. In fact, I've already taught her how to ring a bell when she needs to go outside! She's adapted to our family so well, that it feels like she's been here forever. The adoption was "finalized" yesterday through Canine Soulmates. We are so thankful for them.

Ok, now on to the winner of my Pizzazz Aplenty giveaway! Thanks to, the winner is:

Thanks! I love that she's a Hoosier now too. I found the teardrop/raindops and plan to order a few. Always enjoy your blog even though I don't comment a lot!

Terri, please email me (find addy on my sidebar) and I am going to get your address to Judy so she can send out your prize package worth around $25! She sent me a whole list of funsies that she's put together and you are going to LOVE them (thanks, Judy!)!! Thanks to everyone who commented and became a follower at Pizzazz Aplenty. I hope ya'll place your orders won't be sorry!

Ok, that's about it for now. That was a lot! I've got to get this show on the road with the list of things to do today. I have to be at the hospital in the morning at 5:45 am! I think I'll sleep the rest of the day (with and without medical help!). I love ya'll!

  1. You are in my thoughts and prayers - for many reasons - for the loss of your beloved pup, for the blessing of your new little canine friend, rejoicing for Eric's continued good health and praying that the surgeon's "robotic hands" will be guided tomorrow and that you will have a speedy recovery!

  2. I had a partial hysterectomy about five years ago. Mine was not done laproscopically. I was cut open and it took about 6 weeks to get back to where I could do all the things that I used to do. The big thing for me was not being able to pick anything up heavier than a gallon of milk. But I have had no problems since then. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers this week and the weeks to come.

  3. Susan,
Best wishes for your procedure and your recovery. I'm sorry to hear you are having such troubles. Hopefully they will move on to someone else for a while. And to bad about your precious Hopper. How sad to have to deal with that yourself and to have to tell the girls before school...I can't imagine. I have a couple of dogs and I would be heartbroken to lose them as well. I will be thinking positive thoughts for you during your operation and I hope you get back on your feet soon, but don't rush it before you are ready. Take your will still be there when you are ready to go again.

  4. Susie, good luck with your hysterectomy tomorrow!!

Sorry to hear about your dog, but congrats on the new puppy! I hope she brings you lots of joy!

  5. I'm so sorry over the loss of your dog. We lost our 13 year old Australian Shepherd about five years ago and it took hubby 3 years to want another dog! Sage is darling.

Good luck tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you!

  6. WOW! I'm excited. Thanks for choosing me a winner! I could not get your email - could not find it anywhere on the sidebar, so could you email me? terriavidreader at yahoo dot com. I'll send my info once I get it.

  7. Oh, Susan. Big BIG hugs to you and your family! SO much going on! Awww...know that I'm thinking of you and sending the biggest hugs and biggest get-well-really- quick wishes I can muster over this ol' internet.

  8. oh, Susan, I'm sending you prayers and good thoughts and hugs :D Take care of yourself and don't worry about us :D All the best to you, sweetie :)

  9. I wish you all the best tomorrow as well as a speedy recovery. My BFF is having a hysterectomy next month so I know the pain you must be going through.
    Best wishes to you!

  10. will be keeping you in prayer and hoping for a speedy recovery.

  11. Oh goodness, 2010 has been a tough year for you all. Sorry to read of your illness and the loss of Hopper. That little Sage looks like a real charmer! Take care and will be thinking of you over this next few days and sending my "good vibes" your way!

  12. Susie - I don't comment but love your EVERYTHING about your blog. Good luck with your surgery...take care and thanks for your awesome blog.

  13. Susie - I don't ever comment but wanted to wish you good luck with your surgery - speedy recovery. Thanks for an awesome, fun blog.

  14. I have heard that the DaVinci method is wonderful. The hysterectomy will zap energy from you for awhile. If you just stay patient with yourself and allow time to heal I believe that is key. Don't try to push yourself too hard for a little while. Your in my prayers. Won't it be wonderful to be out of pain. God bless, Michelle

  15. I'll have to ask my son which video game he recommends your doctor play to hone up his skills ;) I have never heard of endo in a scar. Trusting it will go well and you will be up and at 'em soon!

Sorry to hear about your fur baby and really glad Sage has made such a wonderful adjustment and you to her :) May you have many wonderful years together.

  16. I had a partial hysterectomy about 4 years ago. It was done laproscopically but I think this DaVinci method might be even better. I think it took me about 6 weeks to really heal. It just takes time. On on another note, your new little doggie, Sage, is soooo cute! Sage will be there with you every day while you heal. My prayers will be with you tomorrow. Love ya, Tina

  17. Susie... rest assured you will heal and that robot that is gonna tickle ya... it's a PRO... ;) I had a full hysto 10 years ago after finding a grapefruit sized tumor tucked up and behind my uterus, I was PAY ATTENTION TO THIS NOTE: Get some Ginger Root... When they move your guts about it kinda pisses them off so they get a lil grouchy and irritable, you will swell up with gas, NOT the stinky kind :) Cut a wedge, put knicks in it with a knife, boil it in some water and make a tea.. you CAN add sugar but Ginger is a MIRACLE CURE for irritable tummy... It saved my LIFE I TELL YA!!!! I was out mowing my yard with a blown knee and staples in my tummy so it aint all THAT bad.... ;) Of course I AM a stubborn patient!!!!! 8)

HUGE HUGS to you and your family, so much in your world right now, but you WILL overcome this!!!! Congrats on the new bundle of joy and blessings to Hopper!!! :(

  18. Dear Susan, I am so sorry for the loss of your doggie. I hope this new addition brings you years of joy. I had the DeVinci hysterectomy last year. I will say it was very easy to recover. The worst part for me was the shoulder pain I had after the surgury. I had a majoy complication from my surgury and had some serious problems after, but the Devinci in the hands of a good surgeon is definately the way to go.Unfortunately for me I had a bad surgeon. When I had a second DeVinci proceedure by an excellant surgeon, it was really easy to recover. I was back on my feet within a couple days. Just don't strain yourself at all for as long as they recommend. No grocery lifting! Good luck!

  19. I had a lap hyst 3.5 yrs ago and it was the best thing I ever did for myself. I found it to be more a "breeze" than anything else. The 1st day was tough and I had to stay overnight but once home, I was really ok. I am not shy and will gladly share whatever details might put your mind at ease. Please feel free to email me... I mean it! You'll be fine though. i promise. And I am so sorry about your pup. Hugs!

  20. Good luck on your surgery ~ You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so sorry about you terrible week. It is tough when you lose a furry member of your family. However, your new addition looks like he will fit right in ~ so cute!

  21. Wow you have had a lot going on in your life, sorry to hear about your Hooper but sweet to get another four legged friend Sage will bring such comfort and what a joy for you all. Sorry to hear about your health problems and my prayers are with you for a full speedy recovery. Glad Eric is recovering good and able to be with you for your time of health concerns. Blessing to you all.

  22. Susie, thinking of you sweetie..... I hope that you're home, resting comfortably and being waited on hand and foot.

  23. Susan, so sorry about the loss of
your canine companion of 13 years.
It's never easy to lose a friend,
    but Sage is absolutely adorable!

By the time you read this you will
    already be recovering from your
surgery. I had my hysterectomy 17
years ago (I was very young) and 4
    weeks later I was schlepping
luggage on a trip! You will be
much more tired than you think you
    should be...this is normal. Just
let your body heal itself and take
    your pain meds...they help, too!
Don't overdo and you should come
    through with flying colors. My
    best to you.

    Hugs, Sherry in MI

  24. oh, my Susie! hugs and prayers coming your way for a speedy recovery! and your new family member is sooo cute!

  25. Oh Susan, I am so sorry to hear this - I hope all will go well. You and your family continue to remain in my thoughts and prayers and I will keep sending happy positive energy your way.

Did you ever see the Movie "I Love You, Man"? There is a puggle in it named 'Anwar Sadat' it lookos JUST LIKE YOURS!

    Best wishes!

  26. Susan, I had a hysterectomy in 2007 and it was the old fashioned big old scar kind. I had never been in hospital overnight and was really nervous. But I didn't need to waste all that time fretting. It was really no big deal. I don't think I registered over 2.5 on a scale of 1-10 for pain at any point during my recovery and ended up taking very few of the prescription painkillers the Dr. prescribed. Just follow the Dr's post-op instructions, even if you feel like you're in no pain (cause things still have to heal up inside!) and you'll be just fine.

    Good luck!

  27. OMGosh! I'm so sorry to hear about your scar AND your dog. I hope you and your family are doing okay!
