A {1200 Degree} Sketch For You To Try

Well, Happy almost Fourth of July and to all my Canadian friends, Happy (late) Canada Day! Whatever day it is to ya'll, to me, it's Saturday and time for Jen's Sketch For You To Try! But first, I have a funny story. I actually made this card to tie into it. I know, I'm weird like that. On the way to Eric's doctor's appointment yesterday, we were listening to the radio and they were telling everyone not to forget--"Fireworks are illegal within the city limits" (specifically Dallas, but around these parts, you're not supposed to do them at all unless you are out in the country). So they were going on and on about it and then stated, "even the seemingly harmless sparklers that we let our kids play with can be dangerous...We bake a cake at 350 degrees, wood burns at 575 degrees, glass melts at 900 degrees and sparklers burn at 1200 degrees...AND WE LET OUR KIDS PLAY WITH THEM?" Then Eric turned to me and said, "Yes, but we don't hand them to our kids to hold by the BURNING END"! I know, I know, this sounds like a "you know you're a redneck if..." kind of story, but Eric's remark was so funny, serious and so logical at the same time coming out of his mouth!

I've got lots of reasons why I chose to use stamps from The Cat's Pajamas this time around.
A. They are so stinkin' cute and fun to work with.
B. I almost missed TCP Tuesday for all the stuff going on this week, so I wanted to be sure and play along, using my Prismacolor Pencils and Odorless Mineral Spirits. More details on how to participate HERE.
C. They are so stinkin' cute and fun to work with.
D. (And the most funnest reason of all) THE CAT'S PAJAMAS IS NOW A MEMBER COMPANY ON SCS!!! You can find our forums HERE. The Cat Pack will be hangin' out there a lot, so come on by and chat and see what we've got goin' on any time.
E. Last but not least, I wanted to see at what degrees a card with OMS used on it would burn. Science project conclusion to follow.

As always, we'd love for you to play along in the sketch. Jen has a new Guest Designer this month, Sandra McLean. If you want some more inspiration, these ladies burn the eternal SFYTT flame just for you:
Amy R.
Amy S. (off this week)
Kelly (off this week)
Leigh O'Brien (off this week)
Amber Hight
Jenn Diercks (off this week)
Megan Lock
Sony Cristoph
Jodi Collins

SUSIE Q-TIP: Ok, I don't want ya'll calling or emailing about how I don't think fireworks are dangerous, because I do. I have a big fear of fire. When we lived out in the country in Katy, TX, and I was about 8 years old, my dad would send me WITH kitchen matches (if I was lucky instead of just a matchbook), to go burn our trash. It was dark outside most of the time when we did this and I just KNOW the coyotes I heard howling were after ME. I would cry the whole time I was doing it, so fearful I would burn myself. Who sends their kids out to start a bonfire? Really? But then again, we have played with sparklers here in our neighborhood and whose kid was the first to step on a lit punk with no shoes on? That would be mine. Lindsie did that when she was 3 or 4. (Now ya'll can call or email me about kids not wearing shoes. Always a can of worms around here, I tell ya.) I hear Def Leppard playing in the background. Please make it stop.

Stamps: Happy Camper, A Beary Good Year, Coolvetica Alphabet (The Cat's Pajamas)

  1. Susan you just make me smile. We being a Canadian and American family will often go down to my husband's family in small town ND where we can light the little fireworks with the kids at home on the driveway. We too are super careful....but I have to say it IS the highlight for all of us. Our middle son is finally old enough to carry the punk and light a few...it just makes me smile thinking about it.

And the card is FAB too. Beautiful prisma-coloring. Happy 4th! Praying your day is full of lots of love and hope!
