MFT Teaser--Release Day!

Well, I've been whining and complaining. Now that I work on Saturdays at our sweet little local scrapbook store, Scrapper's Boutique, I decided it was high time for me to get back into scrapbooking so that I could be "hands-on" and knowledgable about the products and how to use them. I see some great sample pages that different designers bring in and I just whine, whine, whine that I don't know how to do it like they do. I was "brought up" the "Creative Memories way" (if you know what I mean, but nothing against it either) in scrapbooking and have over 14 completed albums using only their stuff to prove it. I've just never gotten so creative and used "other stuff" (formerly known as contraband) to make scrapbook pages before, much less do any stamping on them!

So when I was coming up with what to make for today's Teaser for My Favorite Things, I decided to go all out and do a scrapbook page! It's a full 12 x 12 page and I used the new Clearly Sentimental About Vacations along with the older Bling 'Bet Alphabet set (which is perfect, I must say for scrapbooking!). At first I had a fun idea for a card, incorporating the "road trip" letters and the quote on it, but then chose to switch it up a bit and try a layout! Just like a card, I started with a sketch I found in one of my Creating Keepsakes magazines (that I subscribed to recently to study and learn how to scrapbook the "other" way!). Then I remembered this photo I had taken of the girls in the car on the way to Disneyworld last Christmas and printed it real quick and went to town (cutting my background circle by tracing it with a plate--I guess I need some more tools). Anyway, I did it! I scrapbooked a page and I LOVE IT! I'll try to add more pictures a little later.

ALERT!!! Surely ya'll all know by now that My Favorite Things now carries their own line of exclusive steel dies called Die-Namics. WELL, did you know that you can create a full 12 inch border with certain ones specifically for borders and edges? Simply cut one die edge from a 12 inch strip of paper (or however long you want it). Then take it out of your die cutting machine and line the die back up with the paper to continue the cut and run it through again. No more piecing the short borders together! By the way, Die-Namics will cut through a number of different mediums (like buttah) and I bet this technique will work for most of them! Try it!

Be sure and check out Kim's blog HERE to see what the other Design Team members are up to today with more teasers!

SUSIE Q-TIP: The letters for my "road trip" title are heat embossed with black embossing powder. Don't overheat your EP or it will just kind of absorb and become one with the paper. Just as it starts to "turn" is when you need to back off with the heat. Then, even though you really want to, try not to touch it too much, as the gloss will tarnish.

  8. This is such an adorable layout! Thanks for the EP hint, too. I seem to have a problem with wanting to burn, baby, burn when I'm heating it.

  9. I would agree with Barbara, you can whine no more! At first, I thought this was a card. And I thought to myself, aaah, I wondered when someone would think to add a photo to their cards. I loved the Erma Bombeck quote. Like a map on a road trip, each detail of your page/card lead to the next. Very cute, very clever!
