A {Teacher's Heart} Sketch For You To Try and some Quick and "Foody" Last Minute Gift Ideas

Hi ya'll! Welcome to my blog, welcome to Saturday and welcome to The Last Shopping Weekend Before Christmas! Are you going to be out among them today? I AM, but only until I either finish my shopping or run out of money, whichever comes first (I'm betting on the latter). But before I hit the door running, it's time for Jen's A Sketch For You To Try! This little card came together fairly quickly, although I must say the three little circles were tricky! I had just finished a teacher gift earlier yesterday (only about 30 minutes before the "Winter" party because the one I made last night---well, I dropped my black inkpad on it and totally ruined it around midnight! made me sick so I went to bed), so I already had Papertrey's new Teacher's Apple set laying out and a few scraps of "teachery" colors of cardstock strewn across my desk. I just decided rather than cleaning up, I'd stick with what was out and this card was born. Do ya'll do that? I had the three circles with the heart punched out already glued together, but they looked kind of plain, so I stamped them with my Fontastic Background stamp from Stampin' Up. Kinda cute, eh? I guess I'll save this card for Teacher Appreciation Week next year, as the kids are now out until January 2nd. We can't wait to get to the rest of our girly Christmas fun and baking! Easy Bake Oven (for them) and KitchenAid Mixer (for me) here we come! Be sure and read on for some last minute quick and "foody" gift ideas I've come across in the last couple of weeks!

Be a teacher's pet (like me) and play along in the sketch with us using keyword SFYTT when uploading to Splitcoast, but not before you use your manners and check out what the other class clowns came up with: Amy R., Amy S., Shannan and Carole

(Many of these ideas were taken from "The Spirit of Christmas Cookbook, Vol. 4")

For Coffee Lovers:
Mocha Sugar (yields 1 cup)

1 1/4 c. sugar
3 T. coffee flavored liqueur
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
Mix and store in airtight container (and decorate)
To serve: sweeten to taste

Chocolate Almond Coffee Mix (yields 2 cups)
1 c. non-dairy powdered creamer
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. instant coffee granules
1/2 c. cocoa
1 t. almond extract
Blend together well and store in airtight container (and decorate)
To serve: 6 oz. hot water to 2 heaping t. coffee mix

I can see making these two items together for a little matching gift pack with some mugs!

Warm Wishes--Make Your Own Salsa! (yields 3 cups.)
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can diced tomatoes with green chiles (Rotel)
1 1/2 T. dried minced onion
1 T. chopped jalepeno peppers
1 T. ground cumin
2 t. dried cilantro
1 t. garlic powder
Combine all and cook over medium-high heat until it comes to a boil (about 7 minutes). Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Store in airtight container (and decorate).

I'd have the recipient refrigerate it too, since it's tomatoes, and not officially taken through the "canning" process. Give the jar away in a decorated paint can with some tortilla chips to warm their hearts!

Christmas Breakfast is Served:
Almond Pancake Mix (yield 7 1/2 c.--about 3 batches of pancakes, a batch =12 pancakes)

3 c. nonfat dry milk powder
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. finely ground almonds
1/3 c. baking powder (not soda-Calumet)
1/3 c. sugar
2 t. salt
Combine all ingredients and store in a resealable plastic bag (and decorate)
To serve: In medium bowl, combine 2 1/2 c. pancake mix, 1 1/4 c. water, 1 egg and 2 T. vegatable oil. Cook on griddle.

I can see this made up with some cute bag toppers and a bottle of Log Cabin in a fun little gift box!

Be sure and print out directions for the recipient where necessary as to how to serve their gifts up. That's all for now, I hope to have more in the next day or so. I hope these are helpful!
