A {Striking Gold} Sketch For You To Try

Hello blogworld and good Saturday morning to ya'll! You knew it was coming...yes, Christmas is almost upon us, but right now, I'm talking about Jen's A Sketch For You To Try! (Even though I can't believe it's already "the Holidays"!) We are thinking about getting our Christmas lights up on the house already before it gets toooooo cold--possibly as early as Tuesday (Eric's off on Veteran's Day)!! Do ya'll do that? Or do you hire it done--there are men that actually do that for a living! Anyway, Jen and I are off to a craft fair this morning and then I have a big day ahead, taking the girls to spend the night out of town with their Nana and Pa (Eric's parents) and then Eric and I have a bonfire party to go to out in Weatherford later in the evening! It looks to be a fun day! No stamping though, but maybe YOU can try the sketch! Let's see, for my card, I used the new Verve set that's coming out on Monday, the 10th called Snowflake Splendor. I didn't have any gold or silver embossing powder (I know!), so I had to make a (2-minute) trip to Michael's and came out with both, but the gold has glitter in it as well, making it extra sparkly! I thought I'd try it on my clear Heidi Swapp snowflake, too. I smooshed Galaxy Gold ink all over it and then dashed it with the EP and heated it. I "almost" set it on fire, but when the girls came in wondering what that smell was, I decided I better quit while I was ahead. It stuck, but if you work at it, it will come off. For a card, it's great--not so much for something you would handle over and over again like a mini album or such. I followed Jen's sketch, but also had another challenge in mind when I did this one--a simple traditional Christmas card, that I saw on Gina K.'s blog yesterday. It kind of got out of hand as far as simple goes, maybe it was the toxic plastic fumes that sidetracked me.

Be sure and strike gold by checking out Shannan's, Amy R.'s, Amy S.'s and Carole's versions of this sketch. It was super easy, by the way, so when you upload yours, be sure and use SFYTT as your keyword on SCS so we can take a look at your goodies! (teehee!)

TIP: When heat embossing a "shaped" piece, place it on a scrap of cardstock with a glue dot. Then apply your sticking medium (ink, Versamark, whatever) by smooshing the pad directly onto the shape. Throw on your EP and heat. By having it stuck to the scrap piece, it gives you something to hold onto while heating it, rather than trying to hold the piece by itself with tweezers and messing up the embossing. Again, don't ask me how I know this...IDWTTAI (I don't want to talk about it.)
