What to Make 8 & 9 Year Old Girls for Their Birthday

Well, among all the "mayhem and foolishness" of last weekend, we had 2 birthday parties to attend that were just about back to back. Lindsie was invited to a bowling party for one of her 2nd grade little girlfriends in her class named Tiffany. She turned 8. That was after the "open gym" gymnastics meet we went to right after lunch that both Linsdie and Audrie got to participate in, mind you (oh and lest we forget it was raining from Ike). Then a couple of hours later, both Lindsie and Audrie went to a pajama party at Pump It Up and then a sleepover at their cousin Carly's house (my other sister's little girl--hi Nancy!). She turned 9. They ended up staying up till 2 AM, swimming about 3 or 4 times by Sunday afternoon and to top it off, Lindsie managed to completely fall in the pool right before we left to go back home! Ya think it was maybe from total exhaustion? Me thinks so. Anyway, I needed to come up with 2 cool gifts for 2 little girls about the same age for these parties. My friend, Sheila, had told me about this fun idea for these clipboards she made for a birthday party her daughter attended a couple of weeks ago, so that became MY plan, of course, and off I went to hunt down all the goods! The chocolate brown "Slimcases" as they're called were about $6 each at WalMart.
Then I picked up a set of Paint Pens for around $7 and a White one seperately. Lucky for me, the set included PINK! So in a little less than an hour, I had both of these all made up! Target has some really cute scrapbooking stuff, so I split a few of the items and put them inside the cases, adding an embellished RSVP pen as well!
I also made these cute little luggage tags for each of their backpacks. Tiffany's backpack is brown and pink, so that was a no-brainer, but Carly's was going to be a little harder. You see, she was getting a new "messenger bag" from her parents as a birthday gift. So Nancy graciously described it to me in SU! colors
over the phone (You know you do that, too. Quit denying it!) a couple of days before the party and I did the best I could, sight unseen. Would you believe it matched PERFECTLY!?!? HERE'S the BAG <--click!! Anyway, I just clipped them to the clipboards before wrapping them up. They both loved their gifts (I think!) and they were so EASY to make...Just thought I'd pass the ideas along!

TIP: Remember the tip about using OMS to get Paint Pen off of plastic? It's TRUE!! And I don't want to talk about it.
