A {We Miss You, Hopper} Sketch For You To Try

It's a sad day in Susanville over here. It all started last night when I went to give our dog, Hopper, some leftovers from dinner (I know it's not the best thing for dogs, but he loves it and at least it wasn't more chicken nuggets--it was chicken and rice.). He did not come running the second he heard the back door knob turn. He is getting a bit old, so I thought maybe he was sleeping on one side of the house or the other, where he may not have heard me. No Hopper. We got in the car and drove around for 2 hours until it got completely too dark to even see. No Hopper. We have no idea how long he's been gone, just that he was there yesterday morning. The girls bawled the entire time and I held it together for them (until they went to bed, at which time I just lost it! Where did that come from? I didn't know I liked that dog so much!).
Jen had said to forget about today's sketch (I had planned to do it last night after dinner.), but in my "lostness", I just sat down at my desk and started stamping, sort of on autopilot and apparently as therapy. It really felt good. So this is what I ended up with for today's Sketch For You To Try. I gave it to the girls this morning and explained that sometimes that's just what happens and we have to keep praying he will come home or that if he's out there somewhere, he is safe and well taken care of. As far as the card goes, it's pretty straightforward stamping. I colored "Hopper" with spots using my Copic markers. I also colored in a few of the flowers on the designer paper to give it a little more pink. Be sure and take a peek at my sistah's blogs (Carole, Shannan, Amy S. and Amy R.) for more inspiration for this sketch--it's a winner and we'd sure like to see yours uploaded to SCS using keyword SFYTT. We are certain he escaped out our side gate, but in the ten years we've had him, he's never ran away. We are headed to the animal shelters a little later. Wish us luck...I'll keep ya'll posted if we find him. If we don't, we may be in the market for another dog (yep, never thought I'd say THAT!).

TIP: Use a memento on a card as an embellishment to make it that much more special for the recipient.

  14. Oh Susan, I am so sorry about Hopper! My mom and dad had a dog that wandered off and was gone for almost 2 weeks. My dad went to the shelter everyday to see if he was there and no such luck, so he adopted a dog he saw there because he felt sorry for it. On the 10th day, Mister was scratching on the back door of the animal shelter, He turned himself in! He had evidently been taken in by someone because he was fed and in pretty good shape. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Hopper! Love the card!

  17. I'm sorry you lost your Hopper doggie! When my DD #2 was 4, we lost our mini dachsund and our Labrador. Our lab was turned into the dog pound, but we never found our dachsund. My little girl was devestated. I hope for your girls sake that you find him.
I love your card. What a fitting tribute!
