Escargot Goes Postal {Blog Candy Style}

First of all, I have to apologize for this getting posted so late. My computer has not been cooperating with me today and keeps losing its wireless signal. Ugh.

I’ve only had escargot once. I don’t have anything bad to say about it, but nothing good, either. I guess if you like that sort of thing sliming down your throat, it’s a good thing! Every time I think of escargot, it reminds me of the one and only time I ate it. It was back when (I was hot) I was in the dating scene. I went out on a date to Baby Doe’s in Dallas with a guy named John (he was loaded-$$). I had never been there before and had always wanted to go and he definitely could afford it. His nickname was “Johnny Cocktail” (he was loaded a lot in another respect, hence the name). So we had our fine cuisine of our escargot smothered in butter appetizer, enjoyed the atmosphere and then had a wonderful steak dinner that I truly believe was the best steak I’ve still ever had to this day (maybe I was just enamored by my company who was loaded--$$). With no regrets, the romance didn’t last. (He was loaded—full of himself.)

Anyway, on to my second card of the day from Storage Units, Ink and More. I’ve titled it appropriately, I think! I did this to cover a couple of bases (not just first, like Johnny Cocktail got to!). Not only did I use the TCP Tuesday sketch #19 you can find over on Leigh’s blog for The Cat’s Pajamas, but also to showcase several of the snail images in the SUINK set called At a Snail’s Pace. You may recognize one of them from the card I did last Saturday that I posted HERE. It also is another entry for SCS's Ways To Use It Challenge (WT178) to use "jewels". But the MAIN reason for this card is to entice you to enter MY BLOG CANDY CONTEST, so you can win your very own At a Snail’s Pace stamp set!! All you have to do is leave me a comment here on my blog on this very post. We like to watch that weird food show (can’t remember the name of it now) that Andrew Zimmern hosts. He goes around the world eating every weird cultural food you can think of!! Last week, he even ate goose intestines!!! So when you comment me, tell me what the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten was. Then on Monday night, I will draw a name at random (or have the kids do it) and post it Tuesday morning. I will then forward your name and address to Denise and she will ship the stamp set right from her store---GET IT? ESCARGOT GOES POSTAL????? Haha.

I'll have to come back a little later and edit this for the TIP and supplies used. I just wanted to get this posted before my computer crashes again!

  1. love all the different snails. Too cute. Hmmm...weird food...Oh wait I did have snapper soup once (made with meat from a humongous snapping turtle). I can't say that I enjoyed that experience though. lol
Thanks for the chance to win this cut set.
(btw, new to your blog...love your little halloween jars; too fun)

  2. The weirdest thing I have ever eaten is Rocky Mountain Oysters (bull testicles). They were breaded and fried...and tasted good :-)

I would love to win this blog candy! Thanks :-)

  3. Adorable card!!! Love those snails!!!

I guess my most unusual was an alligator appetizer!! However, I really liked it! And I would LOVE to win the stamp set...it's a cutie!!

  4. I am a very picky eater, and if it doesn't look good, I don't even try! I am a vegetarian, so even when I go to a buffet dinner, I have to keep running back and forth to the chef to find out what is in the food. They must HATE me!

When I was a kid in boarding school, they used to serve kippers for breakfast, and it was all I could do to keep the toast down, because on the tray along with the whole fish, were lots of little eyes rolling around! EEEKK!

  5. Hey susie! I love food! I can honestly say that I haven't tried many "wierd" foods. However, recently a few coworkers talked me into a Sushie, hope I spelled that right, luncheon. Needless to say I was disappointed. Not to mention it was very expensive and when I left I was still starving. LOL! I wound up eating out of the vending machine when we got back to work. LOL! SO needless to say, no more sushie for me. LOL! Hope your computer gets better, and I love the card.

  6. Very cute card. I just love the snails. I can't watch that show, cuz the things they eat really grosses me out. I would have to say the stranges thing that I have eaten is octopus. It was totally gross and my DH made me try it and then told me what it was. Isn't he sweet? NOT! Thanks for a chance.

  7. You crack me up!! I had escargot when I was younger...my mom dated a guy with $$$$$$ and he took us to some swanky place. My mother didn't tell me until after I ate it what it was!!! At the time I thought it was good but I don't know if I would eat it again. Your card is adorable!!! TFS!c

  9. The only thing that I can think of that is a bit weird is cow tongue. I had it in my middle school home ec class. I don't remember thinking that it tasted weird...but it wasn't awful either.

  10. The snails are darling - and what cute little flowers. When we're in Florida visiting our granddaughters love catching the snails and bringing them to us!! I'd love to win this set! Peg in Iowa

  11. I think for me the weirdest food that I ever tried was lamb. I know a lot of people eat it, but it just made me think that I am eating sheep! Why don't I have the same reaction to pigs, cows, and chicken? I love the card!

  12. The wierdest food i ever had was in Finland. To tell you the truth with the language barrier I am not truley sure what it was. But my best translation is a dried small eel. Now it was black as midnight and tasted smokey, salty, and bitter all at once. And when you chewed it your entire mouth turned black. It is not something I would eat again!

  13. Such a cute card! I like snails, except for that streak of slime they leave behind...EW! Anyway, the weirdest thing I've ever eaten was alligator. I went on a road trip to Texas and ate at a place called "Razzoos" or something like that--I can't quite remember. It didn't really have much of a taste in my opinion.

  14. Hola Susie.. growing up in a multi cultural family.. we had some pretty wierd things to eat.. my step grandpa was filipino and my grandmother mexican.. so I would have to say the weirdest thing that I liked has to be pickled pigs feet!! as a kid I loved them..

  15. cute card - weird food... I'm not sure... i've always been some what of a picky eater....

so I guess... the only thing I can think of isn't really weird other then that fact that it was raw... green beans raw right out of the garden. - it was a dare. and I don't like beans.

    ReplyDelete
  16. cute card! Thanks for the opportunity to win this set. I'm not a very adventurous eater, so the weirdest thing I've had would be liver & onions. I was a kid and could only stomach a few bites, it is seriously the most awful thing I've tasted - although I know plenty of people that love it. Yuck!

    ReplyDelete
  17. WOW! The card is great looking! So cute!!! Well I am a very picky eater and don't try a lot of things either. So the only thing I can think of that is weird that I have tried is Oyster!!! Didn't like it and don't want to try again!!! TFS! ~Heidi

  22. So cute those snails.
I visited Japan and realized they eat everything out of the ocean. I once had something that to this day I have no idea what it was. But it was something from the sea :-) !

  23. This stamp set is super cute! The fun possibilities. Thanks for the chance to win. The weirdest thing I've ever eaten--fried and breaded cow brains--yes you read it right. Sounds utterly disgusting now but apparently when I was little my parents said that I use to just lap 'em up. Now I can't even get an oyster down. Thanks for the chance to win.

  24. Hmm...weirdest food...raw conch in Puerto Rico...it was REALLY tasty though.

  31. OH ya, I'm not sure which is weirder...the squid or the cow's tongue that my H.S. economics teacher made us eat blindfolded and didn't tell us til afterwards what it was! YUCK--ok, have to admit...the squid was disgusting, but the cow's tongue tasted JUST LIKE ROAST BEEF!! =)

  35. When I was a kid I was so dumb our neighbor, a boy of course talked me into trying a real MUD PIE that has to be the worst thing I've ever eaten voluntarily, or the rabbit that our daddy brought home, and I upset the whole family when mom cooked it for dinner, and I sat and cried and said oh the poor little cotton tailed bunny! I got my sister crying, then mom, my father was MAD sent me to my room, and then I heard mom laughing, the funniest part was that dad did not like it! LOL

  36. Hi Susie,
Gotta say I love the card. The colours really make it stand out.
Well living on a cattle station in the Northern Territory of Australia, with most of our employees local Aboriginal people, we have had the chance to try quite a few things. Bush oysters or calf testicals is one we have had since we were kids, we just throw them on the fire at branding time and eat them charred, it was exciting when I was a kid but must admit I much prefer a good rump or fillet steak these days. Other things I've had is kangaroo, crocodile, buffalo, turtle, snake, goanna, and camel. Oh and snail.

    Love your blog. TFS

  41. Yeh! I just love that little snail and I hope I win him. I've had escargot and I love it. When I went to Paris, I had to have it one night and it was great. However, my husband thinks the weirdest thing I like is lengua. Lengua is a Mexican-American dish and the lengua is the tongue of the cow. Delish!

  42. Oh g-d! I had to eat a 100/1000 (can't remember which) year old egg. For Chinese New Year, when I lived in Asia. Oh boy. I don't even like fresh eggs, let alone an old wrinkly pickled one. I am shivering as I type this!

I hope I win the set, to make up for the memories. lol.

  48. Well I don't venture out in the food department much, but I have eaten frog legs and loved them. My husband ate raw squid & octopus and then I kissed him--does that count?

My best friend was Lebanese and her dad would make whole fish eyes and everything and sheep's brain. I never ate it though.

My favorite food is Indian food--love that curry.

Thanks for the chance to win!

Take care and thanks for the chance at such a cute set. Love to stop by for the inspiration too.

  65. First of all I love the snail stamps. I have never eaten snails, but the stamps are cute. Strangest thing for me is Calamari. My hubby ordered it as an appetizer telling me it looked like onion rings, went to the bathroom, they brought out the fishest smelling plate of tenticals...it was so disgusting. It took me a few years later to even try it....Still don't like it. I know it wasn't given a fair shake but, yucky...

  66. OMG! What a cute, cute, cute set! I love the snails! Ok on to the weirdest thing I have eaten....ughhh well I haven't been too adventurous, although I have had Alligator, Frog Legs and Escargot. And didn't like any, (I was tricked into eating all)! Most people think the weirdest thing that my family eats is Pickled Bologna....sounds really weird but oh so good! Thanks so much for the chance to win! :)

  68. Super cute card!! I am just about the most UN-adventurous eater alive, so I'd have to say that for me, the weirdest thing I've eaten is probably seared Ahi - and that was only a bite! I know, pretty boring. My husband (who likes EVERYTHING - seriously, the only food he WON'T eat is candy corn - talk about WEIRD) hates that I go to a restaurant and order the same thing every single time. I figure, if I know what I like, why risk getting something I won't like?

    ReplyDelete
  69. i ordered sushi one time and it was a cooked body, but raw headed shrimp on a roll. I ate everything but the eyeballs...blech!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I am not one to try too many different foods, so I guess the weirdest food I have eaten would be alligator on a stick. I tried that at a market in New Orleans. I have to say it was good, but I was never sure it really was alligator. Thanks for tha chance to win this wonderful set.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I haven't tried any weird foods - I'm too chicken. I did recently try sushi since many people rave about it. All I tasted was fishy seaweed, and I probably won't try it again. Oh well - some of us are just less adventurous, I guess!

    ReplyDelete
  72. you know what, i totally love your card with bright and sharp color.. cute!!

the weird food is I dont have any because I eat anything..haha

  73. Several years ago I was on a cruise and had escargot and liked it! Maybe it has to be done just right! Many moons ago, in Australia, I ate a Kangaroo steak (yummy, very lean!) and Crocodile sausage (a bit greasy). That is all I can think of for weird. I cannot honestly say what all I really ate while I was in Thailand! But I am sure that there was some weird stuff during that trip!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'm with you on the escargot thing Gross! But I believe that is the weirdest thing I have ever eaten also. At the time I thought I was so sophisticated. 75. Love the snails!!! Your card is too cute!!! I am so anxious to get my stampin' hands on these new sets!!!

  86. Adorable card!

Nothing terribly weird here - we've had venison and recently went to a pig roast. Coming from New England we covet whole-belly clams - wouldn't waste our time on clam strips! Raw oysters are favorites of ours also! Like I said, nothing too weird!

  87. Ummm,Icant really remember eating anything weird. I did try some of my dad's pickled pigs' feet when I was growing up.

  88. This card is so cute! And I am laughing at your Johnny Cocktail story. I am not a very adventurous person when it comes to eating, so I have nothing "weird" to share. Thanks for sharing!

The weirdest thing I ever ate was Antelope Heart (yes, the heart). When DH and I were dating he had gone hunting in Wyoming with his brothers and when they got back we all had a breakfast of scrambled eggs and deer meat and BIL fried up an Antelope Heart and asked me if I wanted any...didn't want to seem like a wimp, so I took a bite. It was totally gross and chewy, but they all seemed to enjoy it!!

Disclaimer: I don't hunt animals and eat their hearts....

  95. I can't think of too many weird things I've eaten. I'm a picky eater so I don't try a lot of new things!! I did have oysters on a half shell in hawaii once but they tasted like Pina Coladas..;)!!!!!

I love this stamp set...so cute! Well, the weirdest food I think I have ever eaten is octopus, very chewy!

  97. The weirdest food I have tried would be frogs legs. They taste alot like chicken. Not bad, haven't ate them since though.
    Adorable card!

  98. I love your card. It's cute. When I was little, my mom used to buy duck eggs with the baby ducks in it. She could never get me to eat the duck.

  99. I haven't ventured much into the weird food area, but my husband has been to the Philippines a couple times for work and has had some crazy things there. It is a really cute set.

  100. Love your snails. Hate the real thing. When I lived in South Africa and was young and hot I ate some strange stuff too, like Ostrich eggs for breakfast and dried elephant meat called biltong. Back then I was always up for a food challenge, now prefer the stamping kind! Thanks for the chance!

  101. I love all kinds of weird food. I've had snails only once and they were pretty good. My favorite is Octopus!!! I was Greece and it was FANTASTIC. I crave it somethimes. But it's not the same here!

  102. I am a super picky eater, so I think the weirdest thing might have been fried pickles. They are yum-o by the way. Love your card!

  103. Love your card!! I enjoy that show too - he is very entertaining!! I love to travel and sample local foods though - I think that's a great to immerse yourself and learn about other cultures! One of the weirder things I've eaten is squab - which is pigeon. I was grossed out picturing the pigeons on the street, but they are white, specially bred pigeon. Whatever - it was still yucky ! :)

  104. Cute card...I'm a picky eater so to get me to try something new is hard. I did try calamari several years ago when I lived in San Fransisco at the Alcatrez restaurant. It was pretty good.

  105. That's an adorable set of stamps and I absolutely love what you did with it. I love the googly-eyed snail and also love Miss Escargot - she looks smashing with that lipstick on :)

Thank you for this great chance to win the snail set. If I'll be the lucky one I promise not to eat them - lol. I've tried escargots and didn't like them.

I guess the weirdest I've ever eaten has to be coypu/nutria. We once had these next door neighbours that breeded them and insisted on offering us nutria steak every other week. I was curious and tasted it and loved it! It's white meat and tastes a lot like chicken.

P.S. Thanks for a great laugh reading your dating story :-D

  106. One of the weirdest foods I've eaten is Rocky Mountain Oysters. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever eaten but let's just say it's not one of those foods I'd especially ask for!
Those snails are so cute...and I love to visit your blog - all of your creations are awesome.

  107. I am not very brave when it comes to eating weird food. I have had frog legs, lot of venison and calamari. Growing up with a dad that hunted, we sometimes never knew what kind of meat we were eating. He would always tell us it was, chicken or beef...now we know! Thanks for a chance to win a great stamp set.

  108. Hey Susan,
I am a Preschool teacher and we are
going to talk about "snails" as one of our themes. I would love to win this sweet set! The most unusual thing I have ever eaten was Caviar..
I was helping a friend serve at a
fund raiser and I tried it! Hmmm this is when I decided that I would probably not be serving it anytime soon, as I found out later what it cost..lol!!!

  109. Your card with the snails is so cute! This is my first time to your blog and I really need to go do something productive!!! I feel that I'm a pretty adventurous eater, but thinking back I don't know of the weirdest! I ate blood sausage (and loved it) and frog legs when I was younger. Thanks for the chance to win these cute stamps!! Heather D :-)

  112. The entire card just "POPS" its great. I think my most unusual food was, hmmmmm probably frog legs & gator tail. It was OK, but I wouldn't order it again. Thanks for a chance to win this cute, cute set.

  113. I am laughing reading the comments. I have eaten and enjoyed many of the items listed and never really thought of them as weird. The weirdest thing I've probably eaten is pork rinds - seriously, like the fat of the pig isn't unhealthy enough we need to deep fry it??? lol My husband says my weirdest food is a Nilla wafer spread with peanut butter with a pickle slice and a big marshmallow on top. YUMMO salty, sweet, gooey, creamy, wonderful. Thanks for the laughs tonight, starting with Mr. Loaded.

  115. The snails are adorable! (On your card, not the real thing.)

I am a very picky eater, so I never try anything 'that i can't identify' or anything 'gross.' Funny thing though, I eat most seafood and game.

Thanks for the chance to win some goodies.

  116. Great blog candy - thanks for the chance :) Hmmm - I am a liver with bacon and onions lover - I don't know if that qualifies for a weird food but I get flack when we go out to dinner and I order it when its on the menu! Now my oldest son really gets the weird food award - he was in France for a wedding last month and they served Pig Stomach - which he tried and said he did not like! Last year he tried termites - which you pick up from a rock and eat while they are alive. He said they taste like cinnamon. I don't care if they taste like Dark Chocolate - I'm not trying them :)

  118. I'm sorry, Susan but I'm a bit fat chicken and refuse to eat anything gross, disgusting or even slightly weird! I wouldn't even think of trying escargot or clams. I've never even tried sushi!! I know....I'm a baby!!

LOVE your snails though! I just love SNAIL MAIL...hehehe!!

  119. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to eating weird foods so I would have to say it was the raw herring I ate in Amsterdam when I was in college. Didn't really like it just had to prove that I could eat it.

  120. This card is soooooo cute!!! I would love to win that set! The weirdest things I've eaten are alligator tail (which was very yummy) and rattlesnack (which wasnt't). Thanks for the chance to win this cute set!

  121. Just love the snails and especially all the colors! I love to watch the cooking show Good Eats. It's where he gets all scientific about food and the ingredients. Thanks for the chance to win this great set, I'm loving all their new releases! Cheryl

  122. Hi Susan! The weirdest food I ever ate was tripe. My parents tell me that I loved it, as a young child. I never knew what it was...always thought it was a kind of fish. When I found out that it was actually cow's stomach I couldn't believe it..YUCK!!!

Thanks for the opportunity to win yummy blog candy!!

  125. I'm not sure about the weirdest thing I've ever eaten...probably frog legs and wild boar when I was in the philippines.

  126. The weirdest thing I ever ate was a lightning bug....I was a real little kid and I had the very last forkful of potato salad (Aunt Rose's best)and a lightning bug landed on it....I could not shoo if off, so I ate the whole thing. It tasted like tinfoil. (Don't ask me how I know THAT) Love your stuff

  127. Fish eye soup was the most adverturesome thing I have eaten--and I didn't even know that's what those little bubbles in the soup were until my friend popped one on the table. Gross!!! I didn't eat another spoonful, even though it had tasted pretty good up until that point. My brain won't let me eat anything out of the ordinary. I know it's a mental thing.

  129. LOVE the snails! YOu do such beautiful work!
As for unusual food, I hate to say that I'm a pretty fussy eater. I can't think of anything particularly unusual...I always have to know what's in something before I try it...I know...I'm so boring!
Thanks for a chance at a great prize!
