All is Right With the World {almost}

Well, I wanted to post this yesterday, but my computer has been acting up and I was so tired, that I just gave up trying.

About 1:30 yesterday, after Eric got home, we went to the Watauga Animal Shelter and Hopper was there!!! (Eric wanted me to wait for him to come home, because I have been known to adopt dogs on a whim--and it never works out--and he was afraid I'd do it again! As it is, a friend of mine has a Morkie that I am dying to have!) I guess they had picked him up on North Park, a busy street, not too far from here that connects two other busy streets. (Don't know if someone called or what and I don't know what time). So there he was all curled up, SCARED, in one corner of his "cell" in the doggy jail. However, we had to leave him there (and yippee--we get to pay extra for his stay over the weekend), until we could secure prepaid shots for him, as I have no idea where his records are. The lady at the shelter pretty much laughed in our faces and said "good luck trying to find that today (being Saturday after 2)" and was no help at all. So we did drive all over hurricane's deck yesterday trying to find one open but to no avail. Poor puppy--he probably is thinking we decided to not keep him!! He knew he was in trouble though (although we certainly won't punish him). He just "knows". So tomorrow, my day will be filled with phone calls to see who can do this at the most reasonable price and then I had already planned a sleepover for all of the cousins in our family for tomorrow night. (What possessed me to do that?) There's a place up by Alliance (a commercial airport not too far from here) that does shots only on Thursday before 9 a.m. for $20, but you can't prepay. So I'm going to call and beg the shelter to give him to me and promise to show proof of shots right after that on Thursday. I'm doubtful they will allow it (as the lady at the shelter apparently finds glee in causing misery), but it's worth a try for twenty bucks! Other than that, I'm going to a small vet office i know of in Keller--it's just a vet, a table, needles and an assistant--hopefully they have muzzles, too, as they will need one for Hopper. He hates riding in the car (weirdo dog), so I may borrow a crate from a neighbor, and I may also borrow the neighbor to help me.

So I really appreciate all your prayers, good thoughts and well wishes you sent along to help comfort my family and I. I know for certain that they are what kept him safe on such a busy street as North Park and kept him from getting further away. The girls are overjoyed that he's coming back, but don't quite understand why we could not take him home yesterday. They are planning a welcome home, Hopper party as we speak. Anybody have any ideas? Do I need to hire a caterer?
OH and I plan on taking a few pictures of him in jail as long as the warden allows it. Maybe I'll take her picture, too, and Photoshop her in the cell as well! ugh.

  1. Yay! Hopper's okay! Woo hoo! I'm so excited for you and your family. Dogs are such a HUGE part of the family in which they live, life just isn't the same without them.

    Glad he's safe and sound. Sorry he's behind bars. Can you call his last Vet for proof of immunization? A fax is certainly less expensive/hassle than finding a vet for prepaid shots!

  2. I am so glad you found Hopper! It stinks that you can't get him right away and you have to schedule shots when you've already got other plans, but then hey, he'll be good for a year, right?!? Glad to see he'll be back home soon and that he's safe!

  7. so sorry about Hopper...if you remember the vet you used for the original shots, they could provide you with proof - so you won't have to re-do shots again.
    We use Litsey's Animal Hospital on Denton hwy for shots...best of luck with that animal control lady!

  11. Hopper's in the Slamma'?! Oh, he's not gonna forget that anytime soon. And what's up with that woman? Maybe Hopper can leave her a lil' doggie "tootsie roll" under her desk Ö I'm just glad he's safe and coming home soon. Good for you!
