Happy Spring Cupcake Stand

Oooooh, I have been so excited to finally show you my March project from Glue Art and Paper Studio!! It's a cupcake stand! It's cutie patootie in person and it turned out exactly like I had imagined it would! It began it's life as unfinished wood like THIS (click and scroll down just a bit. That one is larger, with an extra tier, but you get the idea.). I spray painted the bottoms of it white, and then went around the edges again with white acrylic paint as it would have needed a few more coats of spray paint and I was tired of waiting! The acrylic went on with one coat! I then covered the top of each tier with paper (the bottom layers need a hole in the middle and a cut from an edge to the center to get it on there), and lightly sanded the edges and sprayed it with Matte Sealer by Plaid for a finished look. Then came the FUN part--embellishing it!! Felt ricrac went around the edges easily with a hot glue gun and the flowers are those Bride's paper flowers from Michael's which I colored with Copic and Prismacolor markers to match my little ceramic cupcakes from JoAnn's and the little "Happy Spring" sign. A bauble in the center of each of the flowers was glued down and then each flower attached with Crystal Effects (thanks, Jen!).
A little note about the "Happy Spring sign"--I was lucky enough to receive that image from Eclectic Paperie with my last order (so I don't know who makes the stamp, but it's WAY cute!), and I colored (again with C & P markers), and cut each letter out and stuck them onto the scallop cirle piece. A painted popsicle stick attached to the back of it made the perfect "pole" for the sign (no, Cammie, not for you!). The little block I have it sticking into (can you see it?) is also by Glue Art and Paper Studio, but is not located on their site yet. It's actually a 1"x1.25" block with a slot cut diagonally in the top of it to hold pictures, cards, table placards, or whatever else you can think of. In this case, I glued one on top of the other for a little more height and covered the whole thing in paper.
Now, the eggs, I only added the little flowers to--they were bought a long time ago and had ribbon loops on them for hanging. I ripped them off and placed them in a little nestie in the cupcake papers. And no, those aren't real cupcakes (Jen), they are little lidded trinket containers from JoAnn's and were very cheap!! The chocolate is by Hershey's (teehee!). Other uses may include a spring party or baby shower decoration/serving piece. What can you think of? A few of the other Glue Art and Paper Studio artists have some more inspiration for you HERE. You NEED to make one! It was very fun and did not take long at all!! Check out THESE fine retailers (click) to get your hands on one, just in time for all your celebrations! OOhhh, wouldn't it be cute for a birthday party with REAL cupcakes on it!! YUM!! I hope you enjoyed visiting today and seeing my little cupcake stand.

Again, WAY MORE fun to look at by clicking on the pictures!!

TIP: Remember that Crystal Effects (or Diamond Glaze) is an incredible adhesive for all those hard to adhere things. It takes a bit of drying time, but is well worth the wait.
