La-La Land

Well, I seem to have been off in La-La land here lately and have not posted like a good little girl. Last week was spring break for us here and the girls and I stayed pretty busy running around and playing! Thanks to those of you who have been wondering if I fell off the face of the earth!! But now, I think I've recovered and can get back to my normal routine--somewhat--is it ever normal? I guess I should rename it back to my usual insanity instead of my discombobulated insanity, or are they one in the same and it's all relative to what time of day it is?!! Anyway, I did finally get around to taking a picture of the project my friend and I did last Monday that is totally unrelated to paper-crafting, but is pretty cool, if I do say so myself! There is a fun little shop near here in Colleyville called Paige's that sells all kinds of handmade home decor, gifts, and boutique-y items. I have never been in there, but Sheila has and always comes away with ideas to make the same stuff they have, but cheaper!! So they sell these tshirts for $40 each!! We bought ours at Target for 8.99! All we did was take an iron cross (like you hang on the wall) and laid it down on the shirt (front or back) with a trash bag inside the shirt, so that it does not go through to the other side. We laid the cross on the shirt (we laid our burdens down-ha!) where we wanted the "debossed" image and sprayed it lightly with a mixture of bleach and water. "Take up your cross" and you are left with a cool imprint of it on the shirt with a bleached out effect around where it was. What's really neat about it is, you never know what color the bleached out part will turn. The shirt on the left is a mauvy purple and it bleached out pink (the picture really does not do them justice). The one on the right is black and it bleached out copper. We did another black one and it bleached out in red--kind of evil looking, though! Sheila even did another one that I definitely want to try--a dark chocolate brown bleached out pink!! How FUN is that??? I think it must have something to do with the dyes they use in the shirt, but you never know until you try it!! All in all, they took only a couple of minutes to do. If you have any questions, feel free to email me! T-shirt...8.99, Bleach...1.29, Laying your burdens down and taking up your cross...Priceless!!!

  3. That shirt is so great!!!! I won't have any questions until my sisters in law and I start to make some, so be on call. I'm sending my one sister-in-law in Irving (TX) to Paige's to get more ideas. When I sent them the link to this iron cross shirt post, I made note of the reference to me in "here kitty kitty!" Oh yeah....their little Nebraskan sister-in-law is HOT stuff to get her name (sorta) in your blog. I know they'll want autographs.
